Gonna take the boys to Butterfly world. And introduce Sidney to dim sum today. Gonna try to enjoy the warmth. In Colorado all next week. Blech. Cold.

I think I worked on my 40th. It's just a number. My 50th is on a sat this year so I am not working but I am sure I won't be doing anything. Unless I am in Az. then I am going to enjoy my first warm birthday and do something outside. Jan birthdays suck.

Ha ha, Richard. I do feel like it's just a number but so many women are so weird about it that I want to do something fun and exciting. Besides, when I was married, we didn't celebrate each other's birthday and well, it wasn't very fun. I told Sidney we are going to celebrate every birthday. Even if it is a small way.

okay, stijn collective, i have an automotive issue: i cannot get the wheel to separate from the hub on my discovery. i pulled the lug nuts and the wheel simply will not come off.

what i've tried:

i lowered the truck until the tire was resting on the ground and cranked the steering back and forth.

i've beat on it with a rubber mallet, inside and outside.

i tried a wonderbar (flexible crobar) between the wheel and the hub.

i've worked up a sweat. it is really stuck on there, like galvanic action between the wheel and the hub welded it in place.

any ideas?

edit:

i got it off. PB blaster in all the lug holes and in the center area. wonderbar action. an hour later. if that happened on the trail, i'd be in big trouble.

now to put air in the tire and see if i can find the slow leak.

Most of the trail junkys around here carry the smallest oxy acetylene torch they can find and several cans of pb for those moments

I was going to suggest PB Blaster, but seems like that's what did the trick for you.

well, i am going to put it back together with a healthy helping of anti-seize on the backside of the wheel. then, i am going to take ALL the wheels off and do the same.

Wrong answer there gummy bear. A thin film is okay but don't apply with a roller, it will effect the lug torque and can cause the wheel to come loose while driving. Just use a wire brush and clean the hub center where it goes into the wheel and make sure to brush the inset of the wheel.

Well the realtor that showed the house did not sign in nor did they lock my house back. I am not real happy about that one.

oh, i couldn't find the leak. i figured there would be a screw or something in the tire. nope. i used the soapy water trick and couldn't find anything obvious. i am betting it is the valve stem or a leak at the bead.

i'll take it to the tire place, next week.

I've read that Porsche is about the only manufacturer who says to apply antiseize to the wheel studs and give torque specs that assume antiseize. Probably because most other cars use steel lug nuts.

I was thinking more along the lines of anti-seize between the wheel and the hub. The Rover needs to have something because those lugs are a horrible design combined with a hub-centric wheel and winter road salt they just suck.

What a pain in the butt. I had a few online tests to do before I could go to school next week, and they suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Your mind shuts down and the information is wrong but you have to go with the wrong stuff to pass. The girls and I just spent a couple of hours doing my tests, and they are wondering how the hell I deal with it all day every day, as am I.....

You gotta be really careful with that celebrating thing. It can get out of hand and next thing you know...you wake up married in a Vegas Jail and a plus sign on the pee stick. Maybe that's just me.

Even without anti-seize on my Rover the lug bolts on one of the wheels loosened enough that it started wobbling. And I did torque it properly and have a witness that double checked my work (we did a flush and fill on the brakes). Took 2 weeks. Those are the funkiest lug bolts I've ever seen. It may have been because there was no beer consumed during the brake flush.

the key with the rover style wheels is that you tighten them up, torque the nuts, drive for 2 miles, torque again.
