I still have my wisdom teeth, I guess that is why only smart stuff comes out of my mouth. (that should have been green)
Well it is confirmed I am picking up CashFlyer from the airport sat afternoon, he is taking possession of TBST. Looks like I am back to relying on Peggy do do all of my running over of stuff/people.
I have been saying this for a while now but if I don't get away from cars, and very fast y'all are gonna be reading about me in the papers, I am beyond burnt out.

I had only 3 wisdom teeth total. Each just pulled out one at a time as they grew in. No sign of the 4th one even on x-rays.

Have 7 teeth all total that never came in. One orthodontist wanted to x-ray my head to try to find them. My jaw had an overbite but because of the missing teeth I had an underbite with my two bottom incisors sticking out like a bulldog. After college my first big expense was orthodontics to keep from getting TMJ and so I could actually chew instead of just mashing food.

Rick-- a vacation wouldn't reset things for you? What will you do if not working on cars?

I actually had too many teeth and two of them were growing out of my upper gum above the "tooth line" so I guess I was about 13 I had a couple yanked and that made the space for my wisdom teeth. Two years of metal mouth and all was right with the world.
Wayne, I have no idea but if I don't get away from cars I am going to hurt someone. I took three months off last year and it didn't help, I am just done, that is all

Rick, I can't reach anyone my job. We have enough professional nappers on staff. It has taken me over 11 years to get to be a pro.

Is it wrenching in general or just the dealership environment?

Oh I know, it's the guy running the garage and everybody else around you that don't know anything! That's usually what causes burn out. You are the only one that really knows what you're doing and aren't being treated like it.

I was getting really burnt out until I started working from home where I don't have to see or deal with the stipididity.

Good friend in Dallas started hanging with the local Porsche parts guy and wrenching for him, then quit his daytime job and now wrenches in his garage at home and loves it because people bring him their cars because they think and treat him like he knows what he is doing. He is booked for at least a month out, and because he does Porsches it is mostly peoples secondary car and they don't need the car the next day to drive to work etc. Lately he has been making and reselling wiring harnesses too.

Okay I will try and splain my burn out. For starters I have been doing it since before Sid was even thought of, and in this industry I am an old man, (don't go there Sid )
I am tired of always having some form of injury, be it a cut, bruise, busted nail, what have you. My hands are stained, and the industry no longer rewards hard work or the finical investment it takes to do this job.
I was working from home, and also doing the daytime gig and I had more work than I could get done, I actually had to hire someone to come in and help with the easy crap like valve adjustments and such but I was always worried about his finished product. He was good and I had no reason to worry that is just the way I am.
I am doing some side work that is non car related and I am going to keep that profession to myself but it pays better than wrenching and is a ton of fun but there just aren't enough hours to do it for a living.
Beth has a decent line on a decent job (one of my connections) and should she land this I am bring my tools home and I am going to slow down.
Would you like fries with that?

Was just relating my experiences with burn out. The only reason I've been over 35 years with the same company is about the time I get burned out...the job changes. I've done lawn care, electronic assembly, machinist, drafting, engineering, graphic arts, sales and technical literature, network admin, corporate video and animation, programming, computer tech support, web development, and email admin. A couple of times I went looking for another job somewhere else and I was moved to a different job within the company.

Well Rick, if the gigolo gig does not work out maybe something else will turn up.

I do know the feeling of burnout. I worked at one place for 26 years. I helped design the floor plan of the building and installed all the processors myself. Even years later when I was away from the processors and in the computer graphics department anything anything at all broke the other employees came running to me and said the one of the processor broke and then they went to the kitchen and chatted waiting on me to fix it. Not one of the production crew ever wanted to learn about how to fix the problems. It got real old fixing problems that were 100% preventable but the people using the equipment were not doing the required maintenance. It was required for a reason.

That entire industry was rendered obsolete by digital cameras. One thing for sure mechanics will not be obsolete until we have artificial intelligence human form robots.

Rick, would an A&P work since you have the investment in tools? The work would be similar I suppose but they look like a lot of the stuff is roomier to get at.

On my way to work today I was thinking, which is unusual for me, and I wondered if any of you had this problem.

On my old Ramcharger I was out on the trails and somehow broke the inside of the front brake rotor off on a rock. I also had a little turbo car and shattered the front rotor. Pretty sure that was from running it hard and overheating it. Just thought it odd to have broken two drivers side rotors on 20% of the cars I have owned. The brake issue on the Cobra was different. It had undersized front brakes and coming down from Julien CA I melted the brake material to the rotors. Got big brakes on it now and made the runs several more times with no issues.

Other than having the doors pop open in turbulence I have had no issues flying.

Jim, I agree on the coming back to WI thing. We are going to Lake Superior after Minneapolis.

I think the hookers, blow and drinking games are better suited for a Stijn gathering while Rick and I watch. During the cheesy SyFy shows.

If I was heading to Lake Superior, I'd go to Bayfield, WI and charter a sailboat to explore the Apostle Islands.

Exactly where we are headed but probably not in a sailboat. Not sure if we will get to stay in Bayfield but Ashland isn't far away.
