Get off my lawn!
|
It was 78 degrees here on Saturday. Today it is 28 and we will have yo yo temps this week. We have an autocross scheduled for Sunday. That is the morning of the time change, so extra super early, and it will be a COLD start of below freezing, and up to 64 in the afternoon.

Morning all. Bright and mostly warm days this last weekend. Not a bad time at all.

Get off my lawn!

On Sunday we went to breakfast as one of our routines. We met another couple for breakfast and enjoyed that. On the way home I noticed the fan switch would only work in MAX and no blower action on lower speeds. Insert profanity here. I thought I fixed that just recently.
So I took out the panel that has the fan controls, it is pretty easy, just four screws for the face-plate, and two more for the fan and AC-heat module. The switch looked fine, and I started scratching my head. I had bought a new electrical socket that connects to the switch becasue the old one was slightly burned from use and not a solid connection. So working in a tight area I cut off the old connector, and soldered in the new connector. No difference, just the high speed only. The lower speeds are all controlled by the three coils in the blower assembly, and they were all fine. The max speed is a direct connection to get most speed from the blower. So I pulled off the relay itself. In the past I had swapped it out thinking it was a problem, but I still had the original relay. I put the original relay back on, and I have all the speeds. So no money spent, just time fixing old connections. 36 year old connections that were likely designed to last 6 years and 100,000 miles and no more just wear out after 36 years and 375,000 miles. So now I will try to track down a AC Delco relay to have in stock, and be ready for the next failure. I am one of the weird people that never drive around with the windows down. Either the AC or the heater for most occasions. If the weather is great, just the fresh air blowing, but the fan is always blowing. I may track down a AC Delco fan as well. I have replaced it a couple of times. That is a super easy, 5 minute project, unlike most car.

I am a fan (no pun here) of the modern cars climate control systems. After buying the 2007 RDX then the wife's Honda and now my CRV I like setting the desired temp and letting the car do whatever it needs to make it happen.

Yea, I admit it is nice in the Macan to set a temp and ignore everything else. The El Camino has a kick ass AC and heater. Lots of volume in a small cabin, and engine speed is irrelevant. The temp slider and the fan speed switch is easy to adjust and I don't even have to look away from the road.
On the 911 AC is pretty easy, and does not need much adjustment once the temps are stable. The heater will roast you in minutes on high. And engine RPM and vehicle speed both change the needed heater settings so it is constantly needed adjustment. It is an analog car designed in the 60s for sure. No heated seats or heated steering wheels. No AC seats, just basic old cars.

With both cars having the heater blowers fixed hopefully the cars will quit the competitive tasks of making me work on them. I will replace the hood and engine compartment shocks. Both front and rear shocks are not really working in cold weather. Easy enough task to replace them.

Morning all. I am about to give up on the current project as the engineer is clueless and needs to be replaced.

Golly, that sounds like fun. We worked with a few engineers that were very educated idiots. For the most part we were lucky enough to have clients that had very sharp engineers.
My defrost heater is at the appliance store, so I get to head over to get it. The store is just a few blocks from my first apartment in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Carrera has been on a quest to keep me busy I think. Yesterday I had to build a pulley system for the attic. I installed a 21.75 wide piece of 2x12 between the roof rafters. Then attached a pulley, dropped it down to a second pulley and then back to the new board to be tied off. Mrs. Carrera wants to be able to stick me in the attic, and just hoist up the crap to go up there. With it is still cool, I am going to lower out some crap and send it to the land fill.

I can just ride the pulley system down!
I just got back from the appliance parts store. They have been in business a long time. It is unchanged from when I went in there 35 years ago. The Formica countertop is so worn it is down to the base material in places, for many years of boxes pushed across the counter. They have old parts manuals that have layers of tape on the covers holding them together. They do have an ancient computer system, 4 inch monitor with a green screen display. The actually did have a laptop hooked to the internet so not all old school. The counter guys both look like very experienced guys.

Cool Rooster picture Glen. My dad and a friends dad were extra on the Rooster movie. I met John Wayne as a 5 year old on the set once. He saw me and came to see me.

Whooo weee. More fun next week, I get to report for jury duty at the county courthouse. This will be my 4th or 5th time. Last time I just got to sit and read until about 3:00 and they said we would not be needed. Likely not gonna have that luck this time, but I will find out next Monday.

We had good weather, then blow stuff away winds, then snow. At least the snow came after the winds.
Will be above freezing sometime next week. I applied as a conservation warden for thte state only to find out that we would have had to relocate, even though it was for our county. Oh well. David, good luck with the engineer. I know a few and two are really good at their job and one I would ask to engineer a doll house.

We are having a Monterey, CA weather day. 57 degrees, clear skies, no wind. Friday the white crap is popping up for a day, and then nice weather for the weekend.

Yeah this engineer may know there way around a process system but can not grasp simple ideas of drawing work flow.
I was 5 Mr. Wayne was of get off my lawn age. Kind of like we are now.

SoCal has great weather, but from my perspective, it's always 70 degrees inside. Or at least it is M-F. Sigh.
