Well crap. The 182 prop is leaking. Likely we “get” to have it rebuilt. Leaking seal at a minimum. Ah well it is just money, and it will cost more than a couple of months payments on the airplane. So much for making extra payments this month.

If it is variable pitch it has juice. Yeah, that's the ticket.

The prop itself is metal. The hub is really what leaks. Yea, variable pitch prop blades.

I got outside and first played sprinkler repair. 20 years ago I designed the sprinkler system for open sprinkler heads and little or no real pressure buildup. Mrs Carrera decided we needed to change the flower bed sprinklers to drip irrigation. That requires pressure. So last night as she ran that section one connection buried in the ground blew apart. Of course it was under a bush that has blooms that the bumblebees really like. So lots of buzzing of stinging bees as I dug a deep hole. I got that fixed with no stings.
Then the fun of lawn work.

Have an elliptical.
Got it for low impact for Mom with a bad knee. Her exercise bike died. Physical therapist said the elliptical put her in a better position to help her core. Also took her grocery shopping twice a week. She pushed the cart. We went down every isle. Recommended by the therapist as well. When she didn't use it she would wake up at night with her knees and legs hurting. Use it when the weather is not conducive to taking Pepper for a walk. Watch TV shows or anime (without commercials) while on it. Length of show is about right for session. Pepper can't use it. Seen dogs on bikes, but never on an elliptical. Pepper is not as fast as Camber was. Doubt she will be bringing me any squirrels, rabbits, or birds like Camber did. Also have one of those Total Gym, Chuck Norris slider things. Again got it for Mom, to do some of the exercises from physical therapy to help her knee pain. It can easily be set up to work exactly like some of the machines she used at physical therapy. Don't use it much myself but probably should since I have it.

As I expected the "while yer in there" was spoken by the mechanic. The entire prop is off, and at the prop shop getting overhauled. Oh joy.
The weather her has been great. Mid 60s in the morning and only low 90s for the high in the afternoon. I can't imaging the Phoenix weather now, 112 is a cool day for them right now. For weeks at a time. Winter is wonderful there, but summer pretty much makes up for it. Good Monday morning!

"while yer in there" on a prop? So they can put new seals in, AND new bearings while yer in there?

There are some very beefy parts. The hub itself, and the a separate 1/2 prop on each end. Inside the hub is a set of gears and likely ball bearings and lots of other parts to make it all work and not come apart. There are shops that do nothing but repair the props. Few if any mechanic has the proper tools to take it all apart, get it perfectly balanced and tested to meet FAA rules. Of course a certified mechanic has to take it off and put it on and everything gets entered into the log books.
They also take everything completely apart, magnaflux or some other sort of non destructive dye infusion inspection of the hub and measure the gears and bearings. It is not a simple seal replacement. I envisioned a book the size of a regular dictionary or a long novel for the log book for our 182T log books. It is a small suitcase and is heavy. There is an entire dictionary size book for just the prop. Everything ever done to the airplane except adding oil and gas, and cleaning the windshield is logged, signed and documented. That set of log books can be 1/2 the value of an airplane if it is lost.
