Morning all. Yeah Glen the rental last year in Hawaii was like that. Had us freaking out the first time it did it in traffic.

I thought the Macan suv were 6 cylinders or is the 4 an option?

The fuse boxes everywhere was a British thing for about a decade. When I had the 95 jag, I think that damn thing had 7 fuse boxes.

The 04 Disco only has 2.

The 6 cylinder engines are the Turbo and GTS. Ours is just a base model, and it has just one turbo. It still is fast, virtually the same as my 911. It will get on the highway with ease. And the bosses wife gets 22 to 25 MPG in daily driving. Her old Infinity only got 15 to 17 driving it carefully.

To be fair, that particular car caught fire 3 times before I sold it.

The Disco has only caught fire once, about 140k ago. About to turn 270k on it.

I've got my eye on a 1990, RHD, Diesel Disco....if it's still available in a month, I'm gonna make an offer.

Would have to drive a lot to swap the 05 Cayenne Turbo for any Macan and it be fiscally viable.

See, all those fuse boxes let all the smoke out on you.

To tell the truth though, I have always been impressed where they take the LR vehicles for the Camel Trophy.

In my yoot I had a 78 furd moostang with a 302 that required lifting the engine at least 6 inches to get two of the spark plugs out.
So i just changed six of em.

My new highlander has a deal that if you push on the brake pedal very hard while stopped it shuts off the engine. As soon as you let up on the brake it re-starts.
Doesn't take much pressure at all especially with my size 13s.
Hate it.

There is a button on the dash that will disable that function but ya gotta push it again every time the car is started, IOW it doesn't stay pushed.
It took me a few weeks to train myself to automatically push that button every time I started the car.

I found a video on youtube that shows how to make the button stay pressed, but it's over $100 and ya gotta take half the interior apart. no thanks.

Sammy, we had a loaner while getting some warranty work done and never found out how to turn the Start/Stop off. It worked well enough on that vehicle that it wasn't a big deal. It did have a slight shudder when you took your foot off the brake.

Only been sailing once, a buddy had a Catalina 24 and we went out of Dana Point.
Then the wind died and we sat.

He was a regional sales something or other boss for miller brewing and I checked the cooler, lite Ice.
I made a crack about him only bringing lite beer.
He said careful, they're a lot stronger than regular light beers.
I laughed (Alcohol by volume: 5.50%).

After downing "several", I was pretending to steer the boat with my hat on sideways while singing the Popeye song.

I'm sure they did their homework and designed it well enough, but it just drove me crazy thinking that every time it stopped and re-started it was wearing out the engine and starter.
Like to the point where I was yelling at the car and calling it names.
I know huh.

It also has that lane assist that beeps if you change lanes without signaling and makes the steering fight back.
That was easy to turn off, did it the first week.

It ain't easy being a dinosaur.

I would probably turn it off if it were mine. It only stopped at a stoplight and not a stop sign so I think it has to be stopped a certain amount to go off. I would certainly want some clingy oil in the engine.

It only stops the engine once it was up to operating temp as well. You know, when the oil has less viscosity!

The wife's Honda has that and the collision avoidance system. That's the one I hate. Late evenings on tree lined streets the things beeps every time the car goes in and out of shadow.

The wife's Macan was easy to program to never do the engine shutdown at a stop, press a few buttons and done. It was trickier to program it to unlock all the doors when I am driving. Usually if I am driving, it means we are hauling friends to dinner. The manual recommends turning off the auto engine stop during break-in. The starter is more robust and it starts instantly, but I just can't see it saving us more than 1/2 gallon per year in the types of driving my wife does.

The lane warning thing is part of a package that just makes a noise, it does not mess with the steering at all. It also has blind spot warning. It is cool to see the lights on the outside mirror if something is there and hard to see, but in all my driving I have never had a problem with changing lanes.

The headlights turn with the steering wheel, kinda cool in a dark neighborhood, but again, never an issue for me. We did not order the adaptive cruise control. I can handle that as well. One of my friends that has the adaptive cruise said he was just tooling along in traffic and finally noticed he was going 10 MPH under the limit, because the car in front of him was following a slow 18 wheeler.

The neat feature is the cameras in 360 degrees. When moving at parking speeds or backup up, the ground around you is easy to see in 360 degrees. It is astonishing how it can show the ground from every direction and it looks so seamless. And of course it has sensors if you are getting close to an object. That is a cool thing.

The wind usually ranges from 5-15 knots when we're out sailing. The weather forecast was for 6-8 knots yesterday. We were actually seeing 1-3 knots, mostly towards the lower end. Not as much fun, but there's rarely a bad day sailing.

My Z's collision avoidance system is the nut behind the wheel. Another method is extended stays in the garage while undergoing a major renovation.

I hope your garage is well lit for your pedestrian safety/anti-collision. I would hate to have someone walk into it late one night after working on it.
