We were really deprived.

I did not get my first cell phone until I was over 40!

Didn't get my DL until almost 17 and was getting own car. Until got a car, did not care if I had a license.

Wouldn't remember anyone's phone numbers without Siri.

Hi guys. It's beautiful here in SoCal, today. I spent a few hours puttering in the garage. Now, it's time for laziness!

Brent, WTF on the temps there? That's crazy weather!
Chance of snow later in the week. Last night the news said the storm headed this was is similar to the one in April '73. I hope it is warmer than that one. As a kid that was fun, but as an adult I am calling BS.

Taking the P car?

I got my license the day after my 16th birthday as well. Motorcycle shortly after. For the MC test she said slow down for the speed bumps. I said I have over a foot of travel at both wheels, if I don't slow down I won't even feel them. She was not amused. At least I kept both wheels on the ground at all times.

It was this bike.

Stijn!!

I had been driving the dune buggy my brother and I made for two years. The cop asked me how long I had been driving and I told him two years off road sir! Clutch operation was smooth and like I knew what I was doing. I had practiced for the parking test. It was a breeze. When I moved it OK I was supposed to have a test. The cop looked at me and then the 914 and he asked how long I had it. I said 4 years, and he just signed the paperwork.

When we moved from Oregon to Washington back in '89 you had to take a test. We got to the parallel parking part and after pulling up to the coves I asked the tester to try and move the wheel. I was driving an old '84 Toyota 4X4 that had no power steering. She couldn't move it. I told her I never parallel park this thing.

The old Toy truck you could probably park wherever you please. Not much stopped those things.

Nope. It was good truck. The only issues that year had was that every 70k miles the tranny would explode.

Okay, will fess up. Upper class friends both boys and girls took turns hauling our group around all the time so didn't really see the need for my own car. When I got the 12 passenger station wagon took more than my share of turns being the hauler. Remember taking the wagon to back to back XXX moives at a drive-in in the rain. We swore it was better than 3D and you didnt have to wear those glasses

In Montgomery, AL they had an "adult" drive in theater. It was fun to try to get in back when we were underage. Problem is, "adult" movies in Alabama in the early 1970s were occasional boob shots, and couples groaning and moaning like they were have great sex, while still wearing 1970s underwear. It was pitiful. I never even wanted to go back after I was 18. It was not women in little g-strings, I am talking granny panties, and men in boxers. I bet they would be hysterical movies to see today.

See, I was depraved, er, I mean deprived.

You guys all remember being teenagers.

This was in 1976, the drive in was on the south side of OKC and think they had those tall poplar trees around the drive-in lot so nobdy could see the screen unless at the drive-in, pretty much showed everything and were rated XXX on the marquee. Think it was called the Westchester.

One movie was Dragnet. The sgts were peeping trying to find who was killing guys leaving them enormous with all their blood drained. One of the Sgts had a big silver member the women kept trying to uncurl their toes after the sessions with him until he took out the fiend.

The other was Cinderella, and there was no "dancing" at the royal ball. Cinderella's fairy god mother gave her a snapper with her wand. Instead of fitting a glass slipper they had to find the snapper in the kingdoom.

Real quality plots. lol.

Across town there was a little triangle building that had a big milk bottle on top. The milk bottle was painted like a Miller High Life bottle. We called it the beer box. You could get 6packs and cases through a drive up window. There was this old witch looking lady that worked there. We were a little worried about getting carded until this one time we drove up and there was an 8 yo kid waling away pulling a little red wagon with a case of beer in it.

Just one of those coming of age in the big city stories.

Had seven different girls that ask me to take them to and use my huge sationwagon to take their Dl exam. Warned every one of them that they needed to practice parallel parking in it, and they all told me "They could park!" Every one of them was also upset because they got points off for not being able to parallel park the behemoth.

Over the past two months have had to parallel park the Cayenne to attend company meetings. Even though I've never parellel paked the Cayenne or anything else for decades, and it doesn't have any of them fancy camera things, pulled right in backed up, then pulled forward on the first try. Nailed it! Made me feel good for the entire meeting.

Day before yesterday, ie Monday was at the grocery store. As I strolled down the chip isle the Frito-lay rep was stocking the shelves. He asked if there was anything he could help me find. Told him the Toasted Corn Doritos instead of all these stupid flavors. He said, "We don't have any." I said yeah, I know and it;s All your fault. They went from being eye level to ways down on the bottom shelf and then only one row that was always out. I emailed Fritolay and was told they were discontinued because the didn;t sell. They didn't sell because they weren't stocked where people could find them. It's a conspiracy. Then said they probably quit making them so they could make those spicy doritor taco shells taco bell has. Then he proudly said those are over in mexican foods. Said well, that doesn;t get me a bag of toasted corn doritos now does it? Walked off and made a point of him seeing be take a can of Pringles (not made by Frito-lay) off the shelf and put it in my cart. As I was about to leave the isle I heard him ask someone else if he could help them find anything. i yelled "Tell him Toasted Corn Doritos in the yellow bag!"

Guess i'm becoming one of thos grumpy old men,

Becoming?

I did my drivers test on my 16th birthday, driving "my" 1960 VW bug. Dad gave me an interest free loan, but I had to pay 100% of the cost of the car, except insurance. I had paid dad $100 so I owned one 1/6th of the car. We all know insurance for a 16 boy year old is expensive. Dad picked that up. But he never paid one cent toward the upkeep of my car. Of course I could stop at Sarges' Services station just off base and have them fill er up, check the air pressure in the tires, wash the windshield, and check the oil and I was outraged the first time it cost over 2 bucks. A 10 gallon tank, and 20 cents per gallon. I stopped when I had to go to reserve to run. That was just a gallon so I usually needed 9 gallons. I remember 16 cents a gallon during the gas wars.

I could literally did through the couch cushions and find 50 cents, and have more than enough gas money to drive around on Friday night with buddy. 36 MPG and that massive 36 HP engine. And the 36 was rated at the flywheel, and when new. It had over 100,000 miles on it when I bought it. I drove it for three years, and bought a brand new 1973 Super Beetle for $$2,600 and paid that off in one year.
