Get off my lawn!

We went downtown for lunch. The Bricktown area is pretty neat. We at Toby Keith’s bar and grill. For some reason there was Toby’s music playing softly in the background. He has tons of pictures and memorabilia on the wall. Nice place.

Get off my lawn!

We watched the F1 race. Cool finish, and exciting to the end. Then I decided it was time to mow the yard. 88 degrees and 65% humidity makes a high 90s heat index. Sweating cleans my pores but it sure does not cool me off much. Phew.

On EPIX they aired all the Star Trek movies with Shatner and then to Patrick Stewart. So far I have watched the first 4. Dang good thing Kirk was around for to save the day. He has saved the entire planet Earth and all life on it two times, and saved Spock and the lives of other people the other two times. Somehow I think that might continue.

My wife, the master gardener, always has something to do in the many different gardens. She got outside today at dawn. It was just 71 degrees, but the humidity is off the scale. 90% is just horrid. We have had 16 straight months of below average temps in Oklahoma, and are above normal rainfall. The breeze this year has been very low. Right now it is up to 72, and the heat index makes it feel like 75. When there is a heat index in 71 degree temps, it is just horrid humid.

I know what you mean, Glen. Now that I’m recovered from yesterday’s yard work, I’m going to go back to working on the Z. At least I’ll be out of the sun.

Dang bureaucrats. I received a letter from the OK Tax commission. They decided I had an underpayment of $0.47 (yea 47 cents) and that the amount will be deducted from my recent estimated tax payment. So I don't have to mail a check for 47 cents, but I dang sure better get it right at the end of the year!
It would be interesting to see the numbers of what a large overgrown bureaucracy state government spends just to mail a single letter. Several employees spent some time on it, and then printed it, and mailed it. I was under the impression they rounded up or down to the nearest whole dollar. At least I don't have to take out a loan to pay the underpayment of taxes. Dang it, I almost got away with it. I was saving lots of money every year shaving that 47 cents.

You earned a peso or two on interest with that $.47.

The Stick

About this time of year, long ago, I got a letter saying I owed more taxes..
There was no penalty if paid within 60 days of the letter. Took them from April to Sept to figure it out. The next year the company I work for somehow changed my dependents. Paniced when my math said I owed almost $3k more on the 15th. Had just gotten out of college and did not have $3K in the bank. Readded up the form and sent $200 instead of $3K. Then saved for that September letter. Kept $3K extra in the bank for 10 years.

Yea man, with a 25K CD paying 1.5% the non CD interest on 47 cents is gonna be hard to calculate.
I just bet it cost them 40 bucks or more to send that letter. With the salary and benefits, the electricity, computer maintenance, and cost of the paper, envelope, and postage. Much less the cost of the building and heat and air conditioning of the building.

Happy hump day!
Jim, way back when the world was still black and white, before I was born..... My dad worked at a parts counter selling automotive parts. It was the typical small business owned by a couple, and the wife did the bookkeeping, and closed out the cash register to balance the sales every night. She had to balance it to the penny. She was a typical bosses wife, and treated the employees like slaves. Dad quickly grew to dislike her intensely. He started to drop in 3 cents in the register, or take out a penny the next night. It drove her nuts and she would spend hours looking for the error.

And we all understand your frustration when it does not continue to work perfectly. Hopefully is is easy to get at and replace. So many new cars have the starter under the intake manifold.

no idea where it is. With my luck you have to take the whole car apart to get at it.

Yea, like the fist part they grab is the starter, and then build the car around that.
On my BBQ grill, that has to be what they did for the igniter button. It is insane how much stuff one would have to take off t get it replaced. I finally got enough parts off to get to the wires, and got the wires to attache to a new button, that I mounted with a home made bracket on the side if the grill. It is total trailer trash, redneck fix, but better than spending several hours rebuilding the dang grill.

I had a grill like that. I fixed it once then it died again so I started tossing matches at it.
