Had a couple buy and build a house within a 1/2 mile of an r/c flyng field that had been there for decades. Then tried to get the field shut down for noise. Didn't work r/c field was pre-existing. After a few years the field moved so they county could use the property to put in a 6 lane turnpike. Guess they got what they deserved,

The biggest civil airport in the Oklahoma City area is Wiley Post. It is an airport named after the man that died in the same plane crash as Will Rogers, which is the name of the big commercial airline airport for the area.

Anyway Wiley Post airport was originally in a different location, when Wiley was alive and running the place. It was built "way out in the country" originally, but the city grew right around it. The local complained about the noise and I think it was the City that acquired the land sold it for a nice profit after Wiley was dead.

They built a new airport "way out in the country" and named it Wiley Post Airport. Of course the idiots moved out to built around it and complain about the noise. Since it was city owned, and the city was making money on the airport, they just told the home owners to pound sand.

The company I used to work for flew aerials of every airport in Oklahoma and published a little booklet. We have lost a lot of little airports due to noise issues, and costs. We still have likely 10 or more civil airports in the metro area. Wiley Post is nice, but it is surrounded by neighborhoods and businesses, and a real pain to drive to. We keep our airplane at an airport "way out in the country" but it right off of two major highways. I can get there faster than any other airport. The houses are springing up in the area.

There was an airport in Edmond. It is totally obliterated by apartments, houses, and businesses.

Early on in my career I worked for an oil refinery that was built a long time ago out in the middle of god's country, nothing around except oil wells.

Even back in the 60's it was remote. Then the boom hit and it was surrounded by businesses and residential.
Eventually it was squeezed out and almost 600 people lost their jobs.

Not long after that the city was facing a financial crisis because for some reason, they saw a large drop in revenue.
A certain large source of income that they had relied on for decades was no longer there

And natcher-ly, the city devolved into a crime-ridden low rent district.

30 years later it has recovered financially but is dominated by a sea of concrete tilt-up warehouses and buildings. Only a couple neighborhoods survived but I wouldn't go near there at night.

Cushing, OK had a refinery long ago. Now the area is just a part of the tank farm that does not have any tanks. The city of Cushing and all residents know that tank farm is a mega source of taxes for the county and city. It is astonishing from the air to see all the underground pipelines that are visible because they keep the easement clear of buildings and trees. Just grass on top of them, and they are like a spider web all leading to Cushing, the crossroads of the oil pipelines.

We work at two refinery plants here. It is amazing to see the mess of piping.

While it is necessary,I hate dealing with new construction. Last time we had major construction they started clearing ground ahead of schedule and didn't notify anyone. The cut all the fiber between the buildings on campus before the new fiber was in.

All I know is they were scheduled to be pulling the fiber for the fire panels today and they cut everything yesterday.

You would think so, but it was cut because they are excavating. Again.

The new goes into a new conduit that was just bored between buildings.

Sorry, it has been a long couple days.

We had an argument a month ago about why there needs to be a loop in the network for the computers and for the fire panels. The engineers just didn't get the reasoning. Still took out the fire panels.

we typically put in a large wire above the conduit bank that they are supposed to locate prior to digging. It would seem like the contractor has not seen any of the call before you dig ads on tv.

Phew!

The bosses wife came in my office and the boss sent me outside to "do a little project" and it only took 5.5 hours!

The storage building lattice work was old (20 years at least) and broken in many places. So according the the bosses wife, it was imperative it get replaced ASAP. And today was the day. The lattice work is there to keep two little dachshunds from going under the storage building and getting rather dirty.

The old lattice work was put up buy some idiot (me) that really likes lots of screws. It was all that was holding it in place. Total overkill, belts and suspenders type of thing. Way over engineered, typical of my work. So I got to unscrew them all and then cut new lattice work to fit. Then screw in 20,000 or so (OK I know, my mom told me a million times not to exaggerate) screws. They are self tapping screws. Only I have to spin them real fast and press hard for them to do anything.

Oh, and some of the 20+ year old wood had some rot. So that had to be cut out, and new wood screwed into place. I am REAL glad Mike Holmes is not local and here to inspect. I would never allow it on my house, but this is a dang storage shed for lawn equipment.

I "got" to do a few thousand (no exaggeration, well maybe slight exaggeration) sit on the ground, and stand back up. I drug most of my tools out back, (OK major exaggeration, I got a lot of tools) and used my circular saw, cut off saw, drill press and three batteries of charge on the 18 volt drill driver.

The weather was perfect, and tomorrow is a cold and rainy day and Friday may be too. So today was the day for this week.

I want to paint everything in the house semi-gloss navaho white and the wife hates that. But its easy to remember.

About 10 years age she watched too many of those house-fix-it up and flip shows and decided she was gonna paint the front room, hall-way, and front bath a custom color.
I didn't want any part of it so she and her mom painted and I remember saying, don't just stick that can of paint in the garage, write down what it's for and keep a record of what color you bought.

yeah right.

So last week she decided it was time for me to touch up a few spots here and there. Dings, holes from re-arranged pictures, etc.

I found the right can of paint even though it weren't marked.
But it had dried up and the color-code on the lid had faded and wasn't readable.

I asked her if she ever wrote down the details of that custom color. Yeah right.
So I had home despot try to match it up.

it looked good when wet, but dried too dark. And the stuff on the walls seemed like flat but after i realized she has used eggshell. So the walls look like a leopard now.
Guess what I'm going to be doing tomorrow?
