Get off my lawn!
|
I took a walking tour of the downtown building and mostly historic buildings. It was cool, but I was glad we just had to hunt and gather enough people to agree what restaurant to eat at. Then walk back to the bus to be taken back to the hotel. It was the Porsche Parade in 2010 in St. Charles, IL.
I just went outside to the go on an few errands. The El Camino was dead as a doornail. It did have 12 volts according to the Fluke volt meter, but no amps. The headlights would just barely light up. My business partner borrowed my battery charger a long time ago, so I had to go over and retrieve it. That took a ballet dance to get to it. He is a single man. He has three scooters, one Motorcycle, a Miata, and and RAV4 in his garage. Of course he also owns a pickup, and 1/2 ownership in an airplane. So I will charge it for an hour, and see it it starts. And then go get a battery. If no start, back to the 911, and take the battery to the battery shop.

The Miata was his daily driver, but it needs new seats and has pretty high miles.
The RAV4 he bought from an old girlfriend that had always had it dealer serviced and no issues. It turned 200,000 miles and she was convinced it was all worn out. So she was going to sell it for $1,000 and he said he would give her that right away. He had driven it for a couple of years and it is up to 245,000 miles and still going strong. Super cheap transportation.

He is single because he prefers the catch and release mode of female companionship. He was married twice. Unlikely her will ever do it again.

All he has done is change the oil and filters and put gas in it. It has been a good appliance vehicle.

Well that was fun.
My battery was at the battery hospital overnight. They had it on a charger all night. It passed all the stress and load tests, so they gave it back to me. So I went home and put it back in, and cleaned off a few tiny spots of corrosion, and cleaned up every connection to the point of using my dremel with a wire brush the polish the connecting surfaces. It fired right up, and all seems normal. The alternator is charging it at 13.2 volts or a little over 13 volts anyway. Hard to tell precisely on a little analog gauge. I decided to run an errand up to Ace Hardware. When I had the instrument bezel out for something or other several years ago, the top part of it cracked in half. I managed to glue it together but it really showed up since it was right in front of me. I found one on Ebay that was the right interior color. It was in good shape, but it was from a car that had more options. It has a hole for the right had rear view mirror adjustment with a little joystick. And it has a place for the rear window defogger. That would be pointless in the Elky. I can literately wipe it with a towel while driving with ease. The switch for the rear defogger is not bad, but the big hole for the joystick was bugging me. So I found a $0.98 plastic plug that snaps in place perfectly. If anyone asks about it, I will tell them it the the 8 second squirt of Nitrous oxide! ![]() If I ever come up with something that needs a switch, I have one ready to go!

Golly, more fun today.
I got swept lots of leaves out of the garage. I took down the blinds in the two garage windows, hoses off the dust and bugs. We washed the windows, and rehung the blinds. Then cleaned the dead bugs out of the storm shelter, and it is ready for springs storms. Four of my jack stands that don’t get much use now with the scissor lift were covered in spider webs and each one had a dozen spider eggs. Those are all cleaned off. The garage looks better. The 911 is all prepped for Autocross tomorrow. It looks like nice weather. Just really early body time wise. I am ready to scrub off that excess rubber from the tires.

My garage used to pull air from around the overhead door thru the water heater closet and out the attic vents. Got dusty dirty in only 2 days. Sealed the water heater closet door to the garage, and it takes a couple of weeks now.

Mostly it is the leaves that blow in when the cars are parked. Somehow the wind always pushes leaves in and never sucks them out.

My garage loves to collect leaves, too. Is it a plot?

When first started autocrossing everyone driving walked the course before starting timed laps. At some point walking the course just kinda stopped happening. Before I ran the autocross walking the course had already stopped. When running autocross myself never thought to have a course walk, and was never asked to have a walk thru. Do drivers walk the course any more?

Sure, at this site several folks walked it today. At the Sheriff's track it was a 1 mile plus hike to walk so many did not bother.
We had a great course today, lots of sweepers and easy to remember layout. ![]() For a change today, I did NOT have the oldest car there. This is a nice 1974 with a 3.0 engine from a SC and the suspension from the SC under it. They guy that owns it is a doctor. He has had 911 Turbos, GT3 RS, and a Cayman-R, Cayman GT4, and newer 911s. He wanted a more manual driving experience. He had some fun today. The track site does offer to do a conversion for people with a 4 door car that always wanted a 2 door car. ![]()

Hope you all finished before the dampness decended.
Remember one time I drove to the site and autocrossed on R1's, then struggled with driving home in the rain on R1's. Very slickery.
