Morning all. I'm back. I'm tired. I don;;t know what route your friend takes Glen but several parts of the highway we were on are not fit for a Porsche.

He drive a 1985 911 with M&S tires and at full American ride height.

He covers the entire front of the car with blue painter's tape. Remove the paint, wash and it looks great. He ends up with a ball of tape the size of a basketball when he removes it all.

I am still having fun with the Elky steering column.

Likely none of you care at all, but this video at 37:00 minutes in is the part where I stopped today. It is cued up and ready for how he does it. Of course he has the column on a bench and not in the car. The stalk for the turn signals, washers, high beam, and windshield washer is a total Rube Goldberg setup. And that is a disservice to Rube Goldberg, he never made anything so stupid. The high beam switch is in the dash just behind the front of the dash. A rod pushes on the switch, and the rod is pushed by a weird piece of plastic and that is pushed by the stalk. None of it is held in place with anything more that grease and the pieces all fall out if you breath too hard. I did it before so I can do it again.

yeah ride height would be a major issue. I don't think mine would make it very far. Even with the RAV4 I think we hit bottom at least once.

This is the end of the cruise control wire. The one on the left is the new ones and all that is available now. It is too big to go down the column. I had to unsolder the old end, and solder the new one onto the old end. The wires are only 1/2 the size of the old ones.

373051 miles on the odometer now. You can see how faded the carpet is. I just need to get motivated to remove the seat, and replace the carpet. That is project for later.

Some assembly required. Just some of the parts that all have to go back together.

About 20 years ago I had some weird wiper problems I thought it might be the switch, so I ordered one. Then I figured out it was just a bad ground on the wipers and just put the wiper switch on the shelf. That is likely the only AC Delco quality one left on the planet.

Maybe tomorrow I will be driving it again.

adding all those up makes it 40 hours and 20 minutes. We shaved some time off by lets say bending certain rues about speed where we could. Never saw a single police officer on the road. Some parts the limits was 60kph but good luck with that.

We only ran into one place at was marked "locals only" so we just went on down the road and spent our money some place else.

Those pictures were taken from the back seat while the wife was driving. The one I took while driving of the bear and her cub didn't focus on the bear. Might be because I was trying to stop the car, get the phone and unlock the phone while still driving.

Wow, that's adventurous.

Mrs. Noah made me watch a short movie with her on Amazon Prime. It's the first flick in a series called Modern Love. She turned ot on because central to the story is the beloved family sportscar. The episode was called "On a Winding Road, With the Top Down." They're all stand-alone short stories, so no whole series to binge. I think someone was chopping onions while we were watching it.

My mom loved any movie or TV show that made her cry. I still remember walking from my bedroom to the kitchen (of course) and stopping in the living room and mom was wailing away at some TV show. It was an episode of the Waltons. The cow had died. Traumatic action for her.

Me too. Damn slave driver boss made me mow and edge the yard. It was amazing cool temp at 75 degrees, and low humidity, and a 3 or 4 mph breeze. This is the first time all summer the humidity was low enough to NOT have a heavy dew.

Now it is back to fixing the bosses steering wheel and having fun with tiny pieces that need telekinesis to hold in place. Unfortunately my telekinesis is not really very good.

Whooo Hoooo!!

I have the El Camino all fixed up and back on the road. I can't decide if Rube Goldberg would have been proud of the Chevy engineers for that steering column or if Rube would be aghast that they made an setup more over the top insane than anything he could come up with.

The windshield wiper switch only controls the wipers, and the speeds and delay. There is the little boot shaped piece of plastic that is held in place with just grease until it is in position and screwed down. The plastic piece pushes on a long rod to change from high beams to low beams. Then there is a weird pusher arm from the wiper switch to push on the turn signals. The cruise control module is hidden way up inside the dash behind the instruments. The wire from the turn signal-wiper-cruise control stalk feeds up to the cruise module.

Of course the ignition is just as insane with multiple springs and parts that have to align just right.

I honestly hope to never ever have to tackle that project again.

And to think, GM put that same BS system in millions of Chevys, Buicks, Caddies, Pickup trucks.
