Been getting lots of excuses. Said they wanted to get two other cars with the motors out back together and running before they started on mine. They have been pulling it in an out of the shop every day and half the dash gauges stopped working. Now they want to fix the gauges before they pull the motor to make sure everything is working first.

He also got married and took a 2 week honeymoon.

Also wanted to give me a cost estimate before he started and that took a couple of months before he had time to put that together.

They did replace the steering rack and I drove it for a week while the Cayenne was getting a wheel fixed.

It's not that the car doesn't run, it just uses a quart of oil for every tank of gas. Bad enough that it was starting to foul plugs.

I guess Eugene Stoner may have known about about spoon engineering. I was kind of "eh" about the platform. Might be on the list for next year.

Subjective POV having no idea what your relation is to these guys:

I don't stand for getting jerked around and would have told them thanks but no thanks when it took more than a week to get an estimate.

He's clearly not serious about running his business and give little to no fuchs about customer satisfaction.

That is a lot of oil burn.

I consulted with an expert on my previously discussed detonation issues, he saw the plugs and told me they were oil fouled.

Apparently my little oil burner burns enough to kill plugs in the course of 15k miles. I've still yet to install the new ones to see if that truly was the issue, doing it tonight.

That company has been in business for a LONG time and services Porsche's only. The dad started the business and was and is the guru on 356s. The dad retired and son runs it. The general consensus from everyone I know that has used them is they are slow but competent.

I used them when I had my 914. They replaced the 1st gear syncro while the transmission was in the car. Easy to do but I did not want to try it with my limited tools and space at that time.

I had them do a valve adjustment on my 911 once long ago.

The few jobs I don't do now I have done at a place that specializes in 911s. I had that 911 shop re-grease my CV joints and replace the fuel pump. Before I had a lift to swap a fuel pump on a 911 is almost impossible without having gas run down your arm to your armpit.

For working on a 928 the choices are limited in these parts.

They've always been quick on the 944 when I've taken it in. Pretty much the only guys who will work on non 911 pcars in OKC.

Ahh, so their "we'll get to it when we get to it" mentality is likely because they know they're (one of? or the) only game in town.

Still, no way to run a business.

You mean there really is a Porsche besides an air cooled 911 Porsche? Imaging that.

As an amateur 911 owner, I learned this the hard way. When the work on my car was done well and much sooner than anticipated.

They are of the, we've got more business than we can handle mentality. I suspect I got prompt service because it was fairly minor jobs. Bettings they only have one or two guys they trust to tear into Richards motor. Shame it takes so long though.

I trust these guys better than anyone else in the area to pull it apart make the required changes to the pistons for the rings to not use oil and put it back together. Don't know that I would even want the guy in Dallas that did my heads to do the oil relief repair. He is booked for 3 months out anyway. The only other shop I would trust is in California and he also takes a LONG time to do things.

I also host their web site and email.

There are other good shops in town for both 911 and 944. The dealer has a great 928 mechanic, but that would cost me more than double.

Over the past 3 years they have been having pains over transferring from Dad running the business to the son. They have gone thru some employee changes and have had a difficult time finding mechanics they can trust with a car. I really hated to see the guy that always worked on the 928s retire right after I got this one. I think he is just having problems prioritizing time to get both the big projects and the little stuff done.

Back when the old man was running the show I almost always got my car back the next day for almost anything. Since he stepped down things seem to take much longer.

Are you trading this out like some other work? Cash might motivate a newly wed to get it done quicker.

Yep.

It works for our business as well.

We had some lady call us Friday afternoon at 4:05 wanting some historical photos of an some of her property. She wanted to drive over and pick one out.

Like we keep a print of the size she might want of just that piece of property at just that scale and just the years she might want on a shelf. We explained everything is a custom print made to order and we would get the information but not start until Monday. She wanted it for court on Monday! And she waited until Friday at 4:05 to even call us? And then she decided our standard prices were too high. She said she would call back if they need them.

No one else on the planet has them. Oh well.

Yea, we often wonder why the lawyer does not blink charging a client megabucks for a few hours of work and then balks at paying more than a token price for aerial photos.

Fought that war for years doing artwork for people.
They want artwork for free or next to nothing even though it may take hours to create.
