Please don't take my comment the wrong way!

Thom always does fantastic work, no matter what he does. If you haven't seen it, you should check out the work he did on the removable hard top he was manufacturing. Or how about his Karmann Ghia restore? PHENOMENAL...both of them!!!

I was just surprised to see what looked like a mistake...but then again, perhaps it WASN'T a mistake!

(Please forgive the next comment. Nothing personal.)

That 1" tile group used in that band looks...um...cheap.
Like a mobile home.
The tiles are "Italian style", so why not re-do them with a band of classic mediteranean designs? A small band of complimentary neutral colors that don't detract from the overall finish, isn't too expensive, but adds a little varience.
A small light-colored band will also make the rest of the shower look larger.

Those now look like a ring of crap which keeps tightening around the bather.
They can easily be changed with a torch, a sharp heavy spackle knife, and patience,

(I appologize in advance for the above off-the-cuff comments. Keep up the good work Thom.)

Looks great!

Just don't let it get wet, and you should be good for many years.

My wife picked it out, I didn't really have a lot of say in the matter. I just want this project done so I can get back to working on my 1957 23-window...

OMG, come on Randy
But honestly, regarding the decoration band, I like something like the below group better (nothing more than just a very individual taste)

Like a mobile home.

rip it ALL OUT, and re-do it with a band of classic Mediterranean designs

rip out that step down at the bottom too

Sorry for my comment earlier, the tourettes shows through sometimes. My 70's mordern house narrowly escaped being turned into a country bungalo...

Looking almost done. Keep up the good work.

= plys of the laminate lifting up and swelling in odd shapes, etc. The PO owner put in Pergo on our entire middle floor, (@1,500 sq ft) right before we bought our house as a selling tool. Now i know why. It looked great aand was cheap but after about 2-3 years we started seeing panels bubbling up and only in the kitchen. Long story short, its from water, like dropping an ice cube on the floor and not seeing it for a while, small drips of water coming off of plates, etc. We are now looking at real hardwoods and explaining our situation, everybody said never put it in the kitchen, or anywhere where it could get wet. Some engineered woods are the same way also.

I can't understand why people must have a wood floor of some sort in their kitchen. some are worst, in their bath. I fight my designers ( I really shouldn't if I want to eat) because it is a mistake. I will fight you here too. No wood product on the kitchen or bath floor unless it is Teak with an oil finish. I may accept that.

Last summer I installed new Pergo in our kitchen. The old Pergo was destroyed when the ice maker line developed a leak and flooded it. I had to replace a chunk of the subfloor too. The wife wants pretty much the entire house done now, save for the bedrooms and bathrooms.

I have good quality hand scraped engineered floors over most of the first floor of my home - including the kitchen. They have been in for 7 years and so far no problems. Yes they have dings and things from dropped stuff but being that they were hand scraped it all just adds to the character. So in this regard wood can exist comfortably in the kitchen as long as you pick the right stuff. I would never install a plastic laminate or a show room finish like maple in the kitchen. As with most jobs like this preparation and quality materials is CRITICAL. Before the wood went in I had the floors scrubbed clean, leveled, and I used the best wood glue you can buy - Bostik's best.

I love my wood floors. We are a family who loves to walk barefoot or in socks. The wood floors feel fantastic all season long. In my bathrooms I have 18" travertine which is a classic look that will last forever. It sucks to walk on though.
