Not into Ferrari's for the power.

I'm currently trying to find a ride in a superchared Elise. I've driven a lot of Elises before but not one with a supercharger.

I work as an engineer for a sportscar company with an Elise-derived platform (cough cough) which has considerably more acceleration than anything you can shake a stick at, and it has spoiled me to the point of looking into supercharging an elise and being done with it.

When the Panamera lease cars start coming in to dealer stock, I might look at an S model. Damn happy with my 997S at the moment though.

I've been looking heavily into either a supercharged elise or an exige. the ingress/egress procedures are my only concern. i've always had impractical cars, but not sure how old that aspect of it would get.

yeah, it was a production to get in and out of the exige i test drove. the visibility definitely sucked worse than the elise. there's still a draw to those cars for me.

ahhh, too many choices. i should just buy another 911 and be done with it

996 cabriolet - almost without any question. I've looked at them already and I'm sold insofar as quality, value, etc. The only thing holding me back right now is the time of year (winter, not going to buy a car I won't drive with salt on the roads) and the fact I'm looking at an airplane in the next 12 months or so. Probably shortly thereafter - 12-24 months out. By then a 997 might even be an option too.

I posted a thread a while ago about looking for a beater. I finally got sick of looking at cars on craigslist and other places that were mislabeled or not described properly. Thus, I upped my budget to 5k and I'm looking at E39s, such as the 528. I feel that E36s are probably more likely to be beat on.

If I don't get a beater, my next car will likely be a Z3 M Coupe in a few years. Preferable with an S52 and in red or white.

They're very reliable, between my 996 & 986 I've owned one for a combined two years or so. Other than the seatbelt airbag sensors needing replaced in my last 996 I've only done scheduled maintenance. The IMS and RMS issues are real but rare, and I'm not sure what heater line and other issues you are referring to. The only other super common issue that I can think of is the ignition switch going bad, my new 996 is a bit temperamental and I plan on replacing it ($30 at Pelican). Honestly they're awesome cars and they just work, I've drive mine all over the place without worry. I love the air-cooled cars, but for daily driver duty these are vastly superior.

As you may have read above, I just took delivery on one I ordered. I love it...the new (to Jeep Wrangler...not totally new) 3.6 motor is very powerful unlike the previous 3.8.

I had a student at Summit Point with an Elise. I am not a small person at 6'2" and 220+ lbs. Getting into and out of that car was about as graceful as Pee Wee Herman dancing a tango.

But once you were in the car, it really didn't matter. The way you communicate with the car is almost telepathic.

So -- who cares if you look like a fool getting in and out of your car? Once you are behind the wheel, you tend to forget the orgami/yoga moves required to get there...

While my top choice for a new car is still a Cayman S, the following cars are also on my list:

- Lotus Exige (surprise surprise)
- Ford Mustang
- Fiat Abarth 500

-Z-man.

What he said... I'm all over the map... the new Camero is really growing on me... for something completely different there is a local shop that builds tube frame 356 replicas, in a few years 997 prices may be reasonable (996 are already there).
Even more different we have an electric car charging station at work that no one uses, can you say free fuel?

I am not ready for a new car.

I have only had my 911 16 years and the El Camino for 20. Soon it will have a new engine and ready for another 300K miles. Maybe in another 20 years I will be ready for a new flying car.

A tip of the hat to another who is pretty monogamous with cars...

This may well be my final new car.

Ditto.

Bought my '95 Subaru Legacy new, and kept it around for 13 years and 193,000 miles.

Bought my '07 Ford Sport Track new, and it's still going strong after nearly 5 years, and 66,000 miles. Hope to keep it another 5 years minimum...

Bought my '89 944S2 used in 2001 with 115,000 on the clock, and I've kept it for 10 years, (currently have ~170,000 miles on it) but it is time to move on to something new.

Factoring in all the cars I've owned, I keep my cars for 7 years on average. And that's the best way to stay 'ahead' of the depreciation curve, IMHO. (About half my cars I've bought new, half used.)

Since 1974 I have owned three cars. I still have two of them.

I don't count my wife's cars in that. She has had 3 cars in 20 years.

Just bought a 2012 VW Jetta Sportwagon TDI. LOVE it! Compliments the '86 911 very well. Today I got 45 mpg driving from Santa Cruz, CA. to work in San Jose, CA (over Hwy 17, over the coastal mountains). Hauls the family, the music stuff (guitars, amps, pa, etc.), and is still pretty quick! Will turn 500 miles on the odo on my way home today.
