Do you purchase only Genuine Porsche parts from a dealer? Or do you sometimes buy aftermarket/oem parts from some place like Pelican?

Just curious

I guess I'm going the hell. Both of my 356s have many genuine OEM Volkswagen parts bought through the aftermarket. I made the floor pan under my '56 coupe out of salvage sheet steel and the roof of a '65 Impala.

Pff, I've done tons of redneck-style repairs on Porsches. When my muffler straps were shot, I replaced them with super-long stainless steel hose clamps for a few bucks each. 5 years on and they're still fine. And getting the muffler on and off is WAY easier. My brake fluid overflow tube was missing and all I had on hand the day I discovered it was short piece of fuel hose, so I clamped that on and ran it into an old coke can which I mounted somewhere in the dark recesses of the area. Still there to this day, and works fine. When I had the 944 there was a pinhole leak in the gas tank. I drained it and jb-welded a piece of scrap metal to the bottom. Worked just fine.

LOL, same here. A saying that I find to be more true as I get older - "why is there never time to do the job right, but always time to do it twice?" Buying the right parts to do the job typically makes life much easier in the long run. As I get fatter and lazier these things are important.

If the tube that goes from the reservoir to both the brake MC and the clutch MC, and the tube breaks, there is no more fluid going to either cylinder.

Once you push the brake or clutch pedal ONE time and either MC sucks air inside, please enlighten us on how well its going to function oh great all knowing one?

This is not a good place to save $$$ on a car. Safety items need to be 100% ALWAYS. Scrimp on the paint on your wheels but not this...
best advice yet

Joe, the tube goes from the brake fluid res to the clutch MC, not from the res to the brake MC. If it broke, you'd be little low on brake fluid, that's all.

FWIW, I don't put cheap parts on any vehicle and I'm a maintenance freak, especially with brakes. I use dealer pads on my cars, generally speaking. I get them for as cheap as humanly possible, but that's as far as my cheapness goes.

Depends on what it is. If I can get it from Wayne, I do but some items are actually cheaper from the dealership. (Shipping to Aus)

I once was in a dealership to order a part. The guy behind the counter was ordering from Pelican. I made a comment about it like "Hey you guys order from Pelican too?". The counter guy quickly turned the screen away and told me I wasn't supposed to see that.
