The scammers are at it here too ...
Someone got ahold of my credit card number in November. They ordered a chainsaw and gave a shipping address in Columbus, Ohio. The seller didn't ship it because the billing and shipping addresses didn't match. I gave Visa the address and heard nothing else about it. At about the same time someone (the same person?) ordered another chain saw, but the transaction didn't get as far as giving a shipping address. A third transaction was made to something called, "RollerPak." I went through the routine - suspended account, new card issued, yadda yadda.
The RollerPak people disputed the chargeback. Visa sent me the rebuttal and it had the address the item was shipped to and the name of the guy who ordered it! Cool, right? We'll catch somebody... Visa isn't interested. In fact, they said I had to reply to the rebuttal by the 10th of this month (Monday, three days from now) or they're going to put the charge back on my card. The vendor has had two months to respond, and I get three days. So whose side is Visa on? They do not care enough to even put the buyer's name or address in a database to keep track of the crooks. I sent them this. ![]()

The rebuttal had the crook's ebay user name. I looked him up. Looks like he signed up, used his account once, and disappeared.

Went through something similar with Amex. A few odd charges appeared. Called the vendor who gave me the shipping address. Called Amex with the info and they made it clear that they just didn't care. Called the cops who told me I wasn't harmed and this was up to Amex file charges.
No wonder these people keep pulling this crap. No one will take the time to go after them.

I had an AMEX card for years. On day when the renewal time came and they wanted 65 bucks for the honor of having their card I just told them to close the account. No big deal to live without it. A couple of years later I got a nasty phone call from them claiming I owed a bunch of money. I told them I had closed the account several years ago. There was a pause and she said, you are right this account is closed and you don't owe this debt. No one should have been able to use that account. I always wondered what happened. I was just happy they did not want me to pay for it.

I had a VISA card number somehow hacked and someone rented several videos at a Blockbuster in Georgia. That CC card company said I had to call Blockbuster and dispute it.
![]() I had to use my Google Foo to find which one of the stores it was. That manager said the card was swiped at the store so it was a good charge. ![]() In the end I had to file a police complaint with the police in that city with the address and the phone number of the store, swear under penalty of perjury that I had not been to Georgia and rented a video. With that I got an official police report that I could file with the CC company. When they removed that charge I paid off the balance and closed that account. I opened a Visa card at USAA. Those folks understand what customer service is all about. One day they called me and asked if I had been to Italy buying scuba gear. I said nope, I am still here in Oklahoma and I have not authorized anyone to buy anything in Italy. They had to send me a new card but they did not even think about making me do anything more. I have never had to pay a penny and all it took was a little of my time to straighten it out. It is not VISA that does not care, it is the financial institution that you have the account with. Fire the bank or whoever issued the card and find a better bank or credit union. .

I'm not sure how it works, but the bank whose name is on the card doesn't handle disputes. My card is with my local credit union, this dispute department is in Tampa, Florida.

I travel often, so it's not uncommon for me to incur a charge in 2 or 3 different states in a day. They OFTEN turn off my card while I'm travelling because they think someone's fraudulently using it, and I have to call them to get it turned back on. Last time it happened, I was driving back home to AZ from northern Cali...in the middle of the night. Stopped to fill up the tank, and card didn't work (this is my debit card). I ended up just using a credit card, and calling USAA in the morning to get my account unlocked, so no harm; no foul, but it does get a little annoying. I have told them NUMEROUS times that I travel, and use my card all over the world. They still turn it off on me.

Anytime I travel I call USAA. I tell them my destination and any purchase in a state from home and back is not a problem.

Sometimes USAA gets it wrong.
They shut down my card because I purchased a pepsi at a Walgreens in LA while on a business trip, but they missed the $2000, $3000, and $4000 charged to it at the end of last month at a sign and printing materials store in Missouri. They're issuing me new cards and I'm covered, so out of curiosity I called the store this morning and talked to them about the situation, it seems the purchaser bought an additional $12,000 in materials, all to be shipped to India. They said they had not shipped yet because they wanted to make sure all the charges went through. They seemed quite appreciative of my call. |

It would interesting to see how they make some of the decisions on what to allow.
I am the treasurer for our local PCA region. We have a new member appreciation party at a local pizza joint every year. The Pizza joint will not take a club check so I whipped out my card. I charged 800 bucks for pizza and they did not blink. I bought a BUNCH of parts from Pelican for my engine rebuild. No problem. Now they will text me if they see a suspicious charge. I can verify or deny it right away. I do know that the one time my debit card number was stolen I was not stuck. The local police figured out it was an employee at a local restaurant. There was a line of people getting new cards at the credit union. They took that employee to jail.
