There's a guy in my neck of the woods that has a red one like the one I posted. I see him at the grocery store from time to time. Immaculate (original) condition. Older guy, mid to late seventies. Looks like Bob Lutz but is super trim and fit. Always in a polo shirt, chinos and aviators and with swagger to boot. I imagine in mind he's a former test pilot or something and he's had the 'vette since new.

There is a guy in San Pedro with a C2 covetable "rat rod", original white faded paint, OEM steel wheels (no hub caps)... he must work nights because I often see him rumbling into town as I am heading out to work a 6AM. I bumped into him in the parking lot at the supermarket (not literally) I'm sure he is sick of all the attention the car gets and daily offers to buy it but I had to say "nice car" as I past him, "thanks" he said.

I'm not the corvette type. But the ONE that I lust after is the 1970 454 SS.

I have a big block 454 in my truck, and I just love the torque that motor puts out. I can't even imagine a hot rodded version of that motor in a little plastic tupperware car.

GM never applied the SS label to any Corvette of the C3 period (if ever). The only big block delivered in 1970 vette was the 454/LS5 rated at 390hp(gross).The LS4 was sold in trucks and was 345hp iirc.
In the 3700 lb car they ran 15 second 1/4 miles. respectable at the time but not earth shattering .
In 1970 the 454 LS6 was sold in the Chevelle SS and were labeled 450 hp.
That same LS6 (but vettes were equipped with aluminum heads) appeared in the 1971 Corvette but with the change to lower compression that year it was rated 425 hp. Something like 150 were sold.
The LS5 was down to 365. The LS5 carried over to 74 but the ratings were changed to installed net and were 270 hp by then.
The nicest engine (inmo) was the LT1 solid lifter small block rated at 370 hp in 1970.A typical small block vette was probably 3300 lb
Down to 330 when comp dropped in 71. They could crack low 14,s in the 1/4.
The rarest was the LT1 pkg with special HD brakes and suspension (something like 22 were built. I think I recall a member here Foxpaws said she owned one of these very rare cars way back when . Probably worth $200k now).

Like so many of the muscle cars of the era our memories see them as rockets but they were only fast by comparison to the other cars of the same era.

But that is the beauty of a C3, they are so unloved it would not be a bad thing to "restomod" one with modern suspension and drivetrain... best of both worlds.

Any "car guy" knows that 1972-1982 was the embarrassing decade for American iron.

Here's my L82 C3. Not your average Corvette. We have a new Edelbrock Performer RPM (410 HP) engine to stick in her when she reaches the front of the line. New silver paint is in the works as well.

Your post has a lot of statements that sound like your wife decided to do X whether you liked it or agreed or not. It's probably just the way you typed it up.

Yeah, when they went to the soft bumpers, and lost their power, bleh. I did like the looks of the '82 again. I thought the C5 was a pretty hot looking car, a little European looking. Not a huge fan of the C6 looks. The C7, in person, is much, much better than in photos. I was surprised how much I liked it when I saw the first one.

I thought the same thing when I saw the photos in the magazines, but in person, the rear end doesn't look anything like a camaro. Also, the camaro doesn't have those tail lights any more. I think they just had them for the first year or two.

I consult with my wife on everything, just like you.

I like your past and current cars, but I couldn't give a flying burrito brother about what others think of my ride.

Best.
Lighten up. A little ribbing is pretty standard here. And his first post does make it sound like the missus made all of the decisions regardless of whether they were smart or cooperative.

And yeah, I don't care what others think of my cars either. Hell, I'm on my second miata.

I was only looking because I read through this thread last night and got curious. The Corvette shape is iconic and I wouldn't mind owning one someday... even the C4 as I think they represent Corvette's version of the mid-year... much unloved but will still be desirable to those who want in the game on a budget.

I do have to comment, however, that most of the C4s and even the C5 to some extent had really ugly steering wheels. It reached a pinnacle of ugliness with the rectangular monstrosity that graced the last of the C4 interiors in the mid-'90s. Why did they think it was a good idea to take something from the Caprice parts bin and put it in the icon? GM for you, I guess.
It's unlikely my Corvette left Texas after I traded it in. I last saw it in a Craigslist ad posted by the dealer that was later removed after the car was sold, but I have not seen it since.

That's just the thing with "mainstream" car manufacturers; parts from their cars are often carried over to other models.

Beygon-nice Vette but what's the scoop on the GS in the background?

BTW0-I had not even SAT in a Corvette until last November. A Porsche friend bought a 2009 and let us take it out for a spin. It was cool but I may as well just turn in my driver's license if I were get one. My ol' SC is just enough for me.
