MOMO shift knobs - which one?

Birthday coming up...considering momo shift knob as a treat.

There are quite a few styles avail - wondering which one to pick. I realize it would be ideal to 'feel' which one is best, little tough to do that online

Can anyone recommend a great feeling momo (not that OEM is that bad) that has added to their driving pleasure?

I have this one....
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/MISC/POR_MISC_moknob_main.htm

I love it. Kind of close to the OEM round knob. I'm glad I didn't get any of the "shaped" knobs. It also is a good match to my steering wheel...

Not sure which knob you have as your hyperlink pulls up the page listing all the knobs....

Do you have the sphere? king? race? alum-sport?

Interesting. Didn't notice the URL doesn't change. I have the large one pictured when you click on "Race". In black, just like that. It matches my Millennium wheel.

Also, a word of advice, the knobs come with rubber sheaths, that go over then end of the stick. I was going to use the thinnest one in the set, but couldn't get the knob on all the way with it. Then I couldn't get it off! Man, a five minute job turned into a nightmare. I had to use vice grips to take it back off and remove the now torn sheath. I just put the know strait on. No rubber. I have the factory short shift kit, so maybe the stick is a larger diameter, not sure. But the three little screws grab like crazy. Doesn't budge. Test the waters first.

What size is the "RACE" compared with the OEM?

I too have a "race" and really love it. It is about the same size as the stock knob, maybe a little bigger but not much.

Combat looks good.

One thing I worry about - if I slap on a shiny new shift knob, the rest of my interior will look tired. I assume I will therefore have to upgrade the shift boot/cuff and then the plastic stuff around it...then the dash....

I've used a black leather "Super Anatomic" on my last couple 911's, and love it.

the shifter and boot look nice together. a matching steering wheel is nice too and thats all you really need to do and it makes a dramatic difference in the interior--nice upgrade. I see used stuff for cheap and thats how I found mine. Watch Pelican classifieds and Rennlist classifieds. They pop up pretty regularly. Closeout MOMO stuff goes on sale at some of the internet retailers--if you shop around you can get good deals.

ERic - with the short shift kit, can you get the whole s-anatomico into the hand or just the top?

I have the Race as well (half black and half aluminum model) and I love it. It's similar to the stock shift knob in my Audi TT which I love. It's larger than stock, but I have larger hands so it is perfect (the stock knob felt too small). When my friends look at my interior they always comment on how cool it looks. I just blush...

Sorry, should have clarified: I've had that knob on my last two G50 (1987+) cars. It's a bit taller than the stock G50 knob, I can get my whole hand around it, and it makes for a very positive feel. I don't know why it wouldn't work on a short-shift kit 915 though. AFAIK, the short shift lever is no "shorter" than the stock one. It just has a higher fulcrum to shorten the lever "throw".

To add:
Shift knob selection seems to really depends on your ergonomic preferences. Personally, I like a shift knob that puts my hand in a vertical (hand shake) position. Others prefer a horizontal hand position. I would think that if you prefer the latter, you would be more suited to the round-style knobs, as opposed to the stick-style knobs. Just an observation.

Not sure of the year car you have but I've got the Competizone - Gives a sweet old school look and feel.

I am using the "F-16" with the factory short shift with about an inch or so cut off the lever. I am a "horizontal" hand type of guy and with this setup my hand falls right to the shifter from the wheel.

Good point. I never thought of it, but I guess that's why I like mine. I prefer the horizontal feel. I think the factory ss stick is shorter. I could be wrong, though. But either way, I'm "on top" of the know, or "over it" , so the round knob is better for me. I think the ergo knobs would be better for a 996, with a tall tunnel. But that's just my two cents.

Oddball suggestion. I bought a 3a racing knob on ebay for 15 bucks-its 20 at your local pep boys. Suprising nice, leather knob, looks excellent with a Momo Competition wheel.

I think Momo's prices for knobs are nuts.
