Maybe I should have posted this here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/783409-need-help-malfunctioning-cab-top.html

BTW I am more and more leaning to the conclusion that the most likely cause of my problems is one or more broken wires in the last 10 cm of the harness connecting to the roof control unit. Does anyone know if this is a separate harness? Is there a connector somewhere further down? I think based on the drawings I have seen there should be, that could make rebuilding the harness much easier. My other option is to just cut off the last few cm and re-solder the 4 connectors. Thoughts?

I also found that some of the gears in the right hand side latch motor are stripped. Any idea where to get the gears from, without paying 500 - 1000 USD for a complete new motor? Has anyone got a damaged motor with good gears?

Ride height is down to 50kg (110lbs) weight loss. Plan is backdate the rear and narrow IROC front like Green Meanie.

random question of the day (you've been warned)

does anyone know where i can find the lens for the convertible top light on the dash? this is the light that sits between the tach and oil pressure gauge. i have the light and it works, just the red lens is missing. (i told you it was random)

Yup! ;)
What you see on the car is quite a bit of dust as I have been remodeling my master bath and cutting wood in front of the garage.
The paint though is a bit oxidized and will be the final stage of my rehab after the engine is back in, seats recovered, and top replaced.

Well, the bathroom was from 1955 so it needed more resto than the 86 Carrera...
Fortunately this projct is 97% complete so I'll be able to dedicate more time to get the car back on the road.
BTW it was at Madame Blancheville's suggestion the we got the Porsche... She's a keeper!:D

Madame Blancheville or the 911? Maybe both? ;)

can anyone help me locate this part? it's the cabriolet top "indicator" light. i only really need the lense itself but would consider the entire unit if need be.

kkkarpuk 12-07-2013 12:55 PM

I can't help with sourcing the lense but my '87 came without a lens so I made my own from a red bike reflector using a dremel. I press fit it in and is still in there after a couple of years. Not OEM but it looks the part. I took the bulb for the light out when I unhooked the transmissions turning the top to manual causing the light to be on constantly. Having the lens in there did finish off the look.

Thanks for the info kkkarpuk. Just curious, what does this mean anyways? When it's fully closed or opened?

One other question for all...

Has anyone changed out their speakers and head unit? I want to get better sound in my cab but I don't want to go tearing up the interior. I intend to keep this as stock as possible. Thoughts anyone?
