i have ordered stuff from pp and haven't had any issues. infact one time i ordered two parts, they only delivered one, so i called them seeing that they had charged me for two. they explained that they only had one at that warehouse and the other one was arriving separately, and sure enough it did. i was asked to do a survey a few days later on their customer service, i said it was great but it would have been good to see 1 shipped two ordered on the order form that came with the first shipment just so i know something was coming along soon. they said they would take that comment and see if it could be added. a few days later i received an email saying i'd get a free gift if i ordered in the next month. a 1/43 scale car. can't wait to see what i get.
i also have used pp for my 3 series vert parts too. ken

My case is not yours, but it illustrates my recent experience with Pelican Parts service.

I was in Monterey recently when my shift tube bushing split in half. The resultant slop didn't allow a shift into 1st or 2nd.

After trying many local sources, including the dealer, I contacted Pelican's sales dept. They offered to send the $5 part via FedEx Next Day. That's great service. Luckily, I managed to find a local repair shop (Dave Loop Porsche) with the needed part and was soon on my way.

BTW, the local Pcar dealer could have ordered it....... from Germany.

Kudos to Pelican for offering emergency parts options even though I eventually didn't need it, but it was my Plan B.

A post of mine from 2004:

Wayne Saves The Day!
Or at least the engine rebuild. Yesterday I posted a thread requesting help on getting or fabbing a z-block for holding a dial indicator to time my cams. I had ordered one a week ago from Pelican, but when I called yesterday I was told the part was on back order with no ETA. I figured what the hell nothing I can do about it and went to the board to figure out a way around my problem. Never thought once about *****ing to Wayne as I know he has no control over his suppliers. Well Wayne was reading the board yesterday and saw my posting. Turns out the part had just come in and the guy I talked to just didn't know it had. Wayne immediately sends me not only a response on the board, but a PM and an e-mail regarding the part and sends it out overnight FEDEX at no charge to me! I am now sitting here holding the Z-block in my greedy little hands! Now that is service and one more reason why Pelican gets my business!

Another post of mine from last April:

I'll agree that Pelican has high shipping charges, but when I needed a clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder for my 325i and needed it overnight, they are the guys I went to. The shipping was something like $46.00 for $150 worth of parts that maybe weighed 2 lbs, but I really needed them overnight and at 2 p.m. the next day they were sitting on my doorstep.

We've lowered all of our shipping costs since then and now offer reduced air shipping and also 3-Day for $3 to the East Coast on qualifying orders.

I've ordered a LOT of parts from Pelican, mostly on my rebuild and have been shocked at how good their service is. I have never had anything get delayed, lost or wrong. The fact that they were unable to deliver something in your highly compressed timeframe is hardly worth all this. I can't imagine how hard it must be to keep track of an inventory like they do.
I also find their shipping charges perfectly reasonable and I've had a LOT of stuff shipped free.

This post is making me want to go through the Pelican catalog and place an order on a couple of things that I know I'll need eventually, that way I don't have to kick myself in the a$$ when forget and need them last minute.

I obviously could not work in Customer Support...a whiny complaint like this should only be met with a "No soup for you".

Suck it up last minute complainer. Mail order is a tough biz and when you are handling many many orders this is no small thing to be perfect 100% of the time. When I owned my own business I noted that the smallest customers so often had the loudest voices.

Bad form to post this before contacting Wayne.

Basically-- I expressed my need clearly and emphasized how important timming was to me-- I was told no problem -- there was a problem -- there was no offer to correct the problem -- I was upset and needed an outlet to vent.

PP is a great business and dose a great job 99.9% of the time. I just got caught in that .1% of the time despite my best efforts and when it was most important to me. Another time, not an issue.

Obviously I could have been handled this better.

He just did when he said that he could have handled this better, get off his back why don't you...

Situation is rectified on both sides. Wayne's a great guy for taking care of business and 911st admitted he spoke too soon.
At the end of the day all is well.
Move along, nothing to see...

My experience is mixed tending toward "not so good"

I just got off the phone with customer service to check on an order that was committed to ship yesterday and it still shows "being assembled and processed"

The answer I got was "yeah, uh, yeah U.S. Mail - we always have problems with that - the machine never works"

Another recent order was also supposed to "ship same day" and was stuck in "being assembled and processed" for a week. When I called I was told they were short one item and didn't know when it would be in - should be soon" I asked if they would nomally call or e-mail me and tell me it's held-up due one item backordered and I was told "oh, no it's not backordered, we just don't have it"

The credit card in both cased was charged within 2 hours of receipt of order.

I'm wondering about all the personal attacks against the original poster who just related a true confirmed experience.

Yep its a shame. Even worse when the guy says he could have handled it better, but then continues to get slammed
