Very glad to hear you got the car back!
I guess the goal was to joy ride for a while? I do not understand people anymore. The part about spiking the tank was new to me too but glad your dealer is educated enough to check it out. I would have never even thought about that. I guess some people have nothing better to do than to be ****heads. I think many of us would be interested to hear how the insurance company treats you in a situation like this. The concern of what unknown other damage could have been done is justifiable in a situation like this. If it is not too much trouble to ask, please keep us posted on your experience. Hoping you get the situation resolved to your complete and total satisfaction! Also hope your dad is able to enjoy the car again soon!

Thanks for sharing, it makes sense now that you point it out. I have been thinking of using a dead bolt style lock internally. It’s more hassle all around, but safer. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I will absolutely let you know how the insurance co will handle damage identified in the future. Number 1 question on my list actually.
The car in insured with Chubb. They have been really great so far.

Pleased you got it back.
"The battery and all of the fuses were removed" How odd, sounds like the work of morons. Best of luck re the engine and gearbox. |

Glad you got it back, and I don't mean to sound overly critical, but what I'm curious to understand is why you/others leave keys in the car/hanging on garage walls, etc. A good friend had his loaded off-road Jeep ($60-70K vehicle) stolen from his garage in WA state - someone broke in, saw keys hanging on the wall, and drove away with it. It was found but basically destroyed - $5k in parts was all that was salvaged.
Being out of sight likely means nothing to a thief - if he has broken into a garage, he is going to sift through consoles/glove boxes/etc. My keys are nowhere near my cars. Good luck with repairs. Jason

I wonder if they removed the sources of power in case of a GPS type device?

I have a "hidden" kill switch in both of my older cars.
Another problem is if your car is easily seen where it is commonly parked, you are at risk. AHIK. Car covers and secured areas to park or store your car, greatly reduce your risk of it being stolen. If a thief knows where to find your car, and wants it....

Hey Scott, glad to hear your car has been found! Hopefully they catch the thieves. Hoping the damage stays minimal and that you can get it to your dad soon.
Makes sense, that if your neighbor was woken up by the car the thieves probably didn't know how to drive manual. Definitely don't leave the key in the car! One of my friend's shop truck was stolen because someone left the key under the front seat. The car was found completely intact four days later on the side of a street and looked like it had been used to transport drugs.

Glad you got the car back. How lucky is that?
But still have a couple questions. How do you figure they got into your garage? Did they leave the door open when they left? They found the keys in the console?

Have the dealer pull an DME report for overrevs as a precaution!
