Well yup!! The plastic clip for the damper linkage is also broken. I attached it with a zip tie and moved the controls but it didn’t move nor did the heater valve with a constant vacuum supply. The plot thickens.

Swapped the climate control unit and boom everything started to work. Except the ac. But all the flaps and heater control valve now work properly. Guess I need to charge the system some more.

looking nice!
I think covering cars with tarps wrecks the older clearcoat. I Just bought a cheap cloth cover from wallmart for 35 bucks. mine is in a tent so that will help keep the dirt off. i've been working at cut polishing but dont have a machine so I'm just doing it a little at a time by hand.. not perfect but it's working. I noted that with mine , even after I cut polish if I run my hand over the top facing surfaces It feels a bit rough. maybe pitch from a tree? I bought a claybar but not he special soap and rag that comes with the kit, cheaper that way.. thought maybe i can just use a mild soap.

nice to see your blue car coming along so nicely.

Here only people who care about their cars use car covers. The vast majority of cars just sit in open air or worst in driveways with translucent curved plexi-glass that bakes cars paint in a matter of a couple of years.
I used to be lot lizard just out of high school. I used to be good at using the polisher and knowing what compounds to use. Now it’s trial and error all over again.
Plus very limited supply of products here on the shelves. I’m happy with the results.
I listed it for sale on a local website. Already it’s got a lot of interest.
And yes the first question I got was how much to convert it to manual.
Now that it looks and drives well I wouldn’t mind keeping it, even as an auto. Auto fits Tokyo driving much better.
Nonetheless hope it sells soon so I can get my hands on the 951.

The blower motor resistor is working intermittently. The only thing that didn’t work properly when a buyer came to look at it yesterda.

It passes the Japanese mandatory inspection.
The fuel level sender was stuck and crusty.
In the morning the voltage shows 13.5 but as it warms up with a load it drops to 12. And the “!” Light is dim. Guess the VR or ground?
And the temp gauge is bouncing but occasionally reads properly. The fans come on properly and when it reads over half.

The brakes feel wooden like the original brakes on the 930. The rotors were badly rusted so they could use a resurfacing. Suspension is firm, steering weighty.
Not it’s been a while since I drove a 944na. The 996 feels so much lighter

Picked up the 944 last night from the new owner. He is happy with it and is looking forward to continuing the restoration. . Drives pretty well.
The battery died on the owner. I suspected the VR so I swapped it this morning as well as the coolant temp sensor. Now I noticed for some reason it had silicone sealant in the connector.
Looks like it blew out the front right damper. Oil everywhere and a minor leak from the front crank seal ( I knew I should have changed it) and the right side of the PS rack. I’d rather not overhaul the whole thing. Anyone have luck with only replacing the right seal(s)?

Debating whether or not to
replaced 1 contiguous fuel line from back to front or splice in where I put rubber in. I’ll need compression fittings.
I’m open to suggestions.

The front bearing bushing was pushed out. Definitely the source of the rattle at low idle and spin down.
Will pushing it back in suffice or do I need to check all the bushings that is rebuilt the torque tube?

Putting the 944 back together is a PITA. Don’t know why but I can’t do it the normal way of mounting the clutch to the flywheel then the TT with bell housing. I have the mount the disk and PP onto the shaft and lift the TT onto the engine then tighten the PP bolts through the starter hole. In order to have easy access to the top I do it with the front wheels on the ground. So precious clearance. Made even harder since my elbows were stiff and sensitive after falling backwards onto them. I really should invest in a lift.

Figured out the hard starting when cold was due to wrong dme temp sensor.
The torque tube is quieter but the rattle at spin down still occurs but much less so.
The engine temp goes up to half after about 15mins at idle. A bit quick I think and stage 1 of the fan comes on. Oddly the voltage increases to 13v at idle so that works well now.

Got a power steering hose leak. Tried to repair it then found out how much pressure the system uses. Need to order a new hose.
Got charging system tester and an happy to see the gauge read 0.5 volts lower than the actual output.

Hi. The car has been running well but a few issues came up.
Now the temperature gauge stays at minimum and the oil pressure gauge stays at maximum. The voltmeter reads low and the fuel level reads fine.
I checked the alternator output is perfect, and replaced the temperature sensor and cleaned the engine and chassis grounds. Including the ones under the dash. I also cleaned the connector for the instrument cluster. They all worked fine for a while then intermittently got worst.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like the flex PC boards at the back of the cluster may be failing?

what do you think if installing a flush kit, leave the hose bib connectors there for next time and flush with running water, then drain enough to top up with coolant once heater core is full? will draining enough water to add coolant re-create the issue?
