OP with your criteria you pretty much are in the 996/997 camp or a first year (2012) 991.1 that has taken a bulk of the depr hit. A 997TT may be a better daily with the torque at low RPM, but then wringing out a NA 991 at the track 3-4 times a year may be more important to you.
Test drive them both.

348/355/360 depending on visual and transmission preferences.

He's already said he wants a Porsche only, read the ****ing thread.

MAH77 01-23-2019 06:59 AM

That's not mentioned in any of the criteria in the first post asking the question. Thanks for the help Slick Rick.

First post he asked us what we would buy. It was only later he told his his personal situation and plans. You’re playing the game just fine. No apologies required imo.

Sorry, I mean to post that in the roller thread

If I had $80k to spend right now on a fun car, it would be an BMW E30 M3 or an Alfa “Stepnose” GTV 1966-67 Model.

Mocker 01-23-2019 11:06 AM

^^Yeah, but he's looking for a DD. I guess you could DD an E30 M3...the Alfa probably not so much.

Fixed now. I assumed it was obvious...

....Then 965 is your boat !!!Mine too!

997 GTS - Always reads like a nice compromise of GT3 and 911S. Plus its an N/A flat 6. As a GTS, no doubt it will have its Fan boys to prop up resale value as well.

pingpong 01-29-2019 03:36 PM

99TT or 993 2S

Best for $80k 2005 GT3

I know it’s rough but no worst them my air cooled Carrera. I know it’s a 996, but do not care, it’s special with 380 hp Metzer engine, plus NO gizmos but ABS...
End of story.

^ Actually, I love PDK on track, at an autocross, or on the autobahn. :)

And in some cars, it just works so well I think I could maybe live with it. But I tried that in a 987.2 Cayman S years ago and found it seriously boring on the street...to the point I'd take our pig-nosed, 200-hp, 4DR GTI 6MT just about every time over the 320-hp, mid-engined, Porsche in the garage next to it. So yeah, I recognize PDK's superiority (and will take two pedals on track whenever I can get it), and PDK has only gotten better since then, but…it ain't for me in a fun car.

Now, what I really want to know is why the 7MT is a pile of shyte in your view? Because I have long ago decided I am always interested in your viewpoint when it comes to drivelines…

Seriously I should have know this is what you consider fun. Not much you can do with these either. I can build you a 700 whp Gulf R that would be a lot more fun.

Was it a base model? What didn't you like about it? My 18 GTS with tune is an amazing ride in every respect. Fast, comfortable, handles incredibly well for a large vehicle and sounds amazing. Although I have driven some that were not well spec'd that I agree were just another soccer mom car.

The M3 is nice but give me a GTV any day of the week. What a great car and still under appreciated to this day. If you are handy and willing to deal with crazy french cars the Citroen SM with the Maserati engine is a very unique experience and has lots of room. Another car if you hate your money is the AM especially with the V12.

Intoxicating sound although poor ergonomics and not as fast as it should be for the HP but looks amazing. Funny I post a pic of my friends AM and this pops up on BaT.

I know I will get flamed but I am surprised nobody mentioned the 928. Probably one of the best GT cars made. Well maintained examples are very reliable although have some expensive routine maintenance.

Not fast by todays standards but these are a fantastic ride especially with a 5 speed and the GTS is an amazing car for its day.

End of story.

These are so underestimated. When they first came out they had handling issues but now that it has been resolved a great buy and rare. Although I don't see the gain in space over his other cars. Any of the mezger engine cars are a great buy the 996TT with AWD delete and LSD is an amazing buy and far too much car for the $$. Again I don't see it resolving his dilemma. You can build a nice 6 GT3 3.8 with steel sleeved nikasil plated cylinders for not much and have even more fun.

Cobalt 02-25-2019 04:47 AM

Not sure why the pics aren't loading but the 928 is worth consideration.
