Are we saying the only full value Carrera sales occur on BaT in a highly professional manner?

Looks like you have a nice car. The competition aspect of BAT is what drives the higher price. Once a bid is made, even if low, you are emotionally invested and see owning the car. Get 10 people in that position, fighting against each other will drive up the price.

I would think your car would bring nearly $50k(if not more) on BAT if detailed and photographed really well.

It's a high miles cab in a non premium color, not exactly a good example to base the whole market on.

Ebay, Car Gurus, Autotrader, etc have plenty of G50 coupes with asking prices in the low to mid 40s. You don't have to pay $50K+ for one.

As they say, you buy the seller. Having bought from Luke, I can tell you anything he drives is to a very high standard. There will be no after sales surprises or secrets. The car will be EXACTLY as presented. There are a number of people, myself included, who place a several thousand dollar premium on not having a bunch of little things bite you after delivery. Though it you like little projects, maybe it's not a downside. However, you can't be sure all projects are little. You shop in the big pool and you better vet the car really carefully, because you don't know diddly about the sellers.

Absolutely there are junk sellers, selling junk product. And I keep away from those like the plague myself. Even taking those out, there are $40s G50s out there.

Agreed. Little things make a huge difference in pricing like the original paint, oem steering wheel, oem radio, bumperettes & straight tachs to name few.

Color me surprised on the hammer price on this one. I really was thinking fmv somewhere in the 35-42k range. So is this an anomaly or is the market still hot? I watch the 89's As I do still have a soft spot for em.

I think our tendency to focus on the top of the market may be skewing perspectives a little bit. What I said earlier about the 930 market was focused on middle market cars. The top of the 930 market has held solid. And I think that the same holds true for SCs and Carreras. There are by all means $50k Carreras out there. I'm helping a family friend sell a $65K Carrera. But it's not the fat spot on the bell curve. We really should be looking at the middle, which is a much more likely place to see the start of a contracting market. And I think it's more than started, it's been happening for a bit now.

Two cars just listed tonight are good examples:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1029310-1982-911sc-matching-numbers-original-color.html

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1030275-1979-911sc-priced-right.html

Even a year ago there weren't condition 3 cars like this under $30k. Many said that SCs like this would never be under $30k again. There are plenty of them these days. Hell, there's an 84 Carrera targa in our classifieds for $24k right now. He's vague about something wrong with the engine, but otherwise it seems a decent car on the surface. Nothing to write home about, but not a rusted out turd either.

Thanks Matt for the endorsement..... I am proud to say I have never made a dime on a car but I am also proud of every transaction I have made.....

Like most here, I am a car guy. This is my relaxation. I had fun when Porsches had little value. Most conversations have declined in depth since they became valuable. No longer is it about the incredible sound, smell and experience.

Any seasoned Porsche owner understands the true cost of an air-cooled 911. Even for the shade tree mechanics......

Have a feeling this car will be gone by the weekend. Seems like a great deal.

Both cars seem decent for what they are...drivers. Problem is, many buyers want the minty cars for drivers prices....and there lies the problem.

I agree that many people are looking for "minty" cars.... Paint meters, service records, updates and upgrades but outstanding original platforms.

The cost of all components of restoration (paint, mechanical, upholstery, etc.) have become much more expensive over the last 4 years. It seems that a minty car is a good value compared to a restoration... And you can't replicate original.

Thoughts?

Personally, I would not want to replicate original Porsche 911/930 - they are full of design flaws, compromises and in some instances, outright dumbassery (not to mention that they are far too slow in as-delivered trim). They are much better cars when modded.

Yep. I have seen some original, medium mileage cars sell for a few thousand more than I paid. Those same cars were $45k more when I bought mine.
