Since we are all sharing opinions, here’s mine. I’ve always stayed away from Cabs for the following reasons:
- Added complexity resulting in higher maintenance costs - Added weight due to additional bracing and the mechanical top - Prefer the look of coupes and Targas Having said all that, my two current Porsches are the Boxster Spyder and a 964 Targa so yes I do enjoy the open top experience. The Spyder has a simple top that I can easily repair/replace without significant expense or fuss. It’s design is so simple that there really isn’t much that could break. It’s also lighter than the equivalent coupe and I think it looks better. The Targa top is also relatively simple and doesn’t require much to maintain it. I recently had the top rebuilt to the tune of $1800, not a major expense every 25 years. I know the look isn’t for everyone, I personally love it and there’s nothing else like it. It doesn’t weigh more than a Coupe either, total weight with 1/2 tank of fuel was 3000 lbs so the only real drawback is less rigidity and wind noise when the top is up. ![]()

I generally do not prefer a top down 930. However I must admit I've kept it as it has been properly enhanced to 482 HP at the crank. Another reason it is a 89 SN, one of the 28 sold into the USA and it was delivered new to San Diego CA, for possible future enhanced value although not a huge priority just now.
Also in Porsche advertising the 89 SN is proclaimed to be the last year in the development of the 930 project as quoted in advertising brochures ( by a Porsche family member ). For US production He listed the sequence as 76-77 Turbo Carrera then Turbo to 89 final was 1989 930 SN as the last model for the development. I keep it top down for the few times I drive it. Those extra HP has also further kept me to want to keep it. The value angle, to be determined. The Red SN body color ( Red not usually a first choice) but with the black interior and top look really old school good to me.

The slant nose turbo cab is as iconic as it gets imo, it’s just a better looking car than the slant nose coupe. The contrast of the ragtop, as well as the body lines when it’s up, make it a much better looking car to me.

We all know about the 356 and 550 world .....but again cabs are just not great cars it in the 911 world.
As far as 911 Speedster, just a low volume car people want, moves the needle very little...IMHO, plus slow.... |

The cabs always look unfinished to me. When cab tops get old or older they make the car look old or older. Proper new top is very expensive!!! When looking for an air cooled 911 ten years ago the targa and cab was not even considered. Here in San Diego , a quality used sports car shop always had air cooled cabs in the showroom. When I asked the salesman where were the coupes ? He said they can’t find them. Everyone wants coupes. So, there is your answer.

It’s really quite simple. Race on Sunday, sell on Monday. The slantnose was part of the aero development of the 935. People liked it, so they sold it in street cars.

Opinions are, as they say like *******S, that is, everyone's got one! I'll give you mine.
I've kept my cab now for exactly 20 years. On one hand, though I couldn't afford one then, I was conditioned to love the cab (slant nose or not) if it were 930 as a college student in OC CA in the mid to late 80s. One the other hand, in 1999 by coincidence I acquired a Ruf BTR III which was MY 89 and done out by Ruf with 964 Turbo body and 6 speed (no slant). Moreover, it is still yellow like the yellowbird, a color I liked. I guess all those bells and whistles sold me on this cab. It's intriguing, fast enough for a street car and I can still see the sun or the moon sky! On a nice day, or night I might even think I'm still living in God's Country, Orange County CA. I'll need to get it running first! HA! bernie

If you like convertibles get a cab, if you don't get a coupe. The initial cost is lower but everything else costs the same. I have had some kind of convertible since the late 80's. Started with a Mustang LX 5.0, 3 Miata's now a 964 cab. Since cars aren't investments get what you want and have fun with it. Who cares about somebody else's opinion if they aren't paying the bills. If you don't like my car why should I care?

BTW, on another note, we had guests yesterday so we went to a huge local antique shop in the area. On a shelf I saw a white model of a 928! I went over and picked it up and it was a model of the AMC Pacer!!! Race version!!! My Wife was right!

According to Porsche US dealer advertising brochure in the late 80s, the 930 development was as follows, first is the Turbo Carrera then Turbo and last, the 930 SN. So if you want the first and last model of a USA 930, it would be a 76 Turbo Carrera, and the last model a 89 930 SN. Could be a reason to a Porsche Turbo collector. It also mentioned styling cues from the 935 and the increased top speed of the SN which was important back then when comparing to the others, like Testarossa etc. Agree this thinking may be too deep in the weeds but just a few reasons why some may want a SN. I like mine just because I like it, & when I first drove it the still perfect original paint etc & upgraded to 480 crank HP did the trick.
