</div>I'm not a doomsdayer but we are supposed to learn from history. It might be decades before we see the impact of QE. Canada surely won't escape. I don't lie awake at night worrying about it. I'm currently enjoying the bubble having sold my 993 this weekend. I was done with it anyway. The 911E will follow because I don't have the time for a project these days leaving the 356A coupe which I will keep.
I too sold a 993 last weekend. This one wasn't for sale and I got an offer I could not refuse...he was a hot rodder..never owned a Porsche before and he's been hearing a lot about them recently. His freinds told him only buy a 1995 with obd1.
I was ready to do a full restoration on this 993 until he made the offer.
The car:
1995 build date April 1994 black on black non sunroof six speed. Car needed new paint, (rust at f/r window corners) dampers, tires, brakes, evaporater ($$$) lenses front and rear. The interior was impeccable.
No accidents. 112,000 miles
$44,000.
I offered to take the car to RMG on Monday or Tues so he could get a PPI from Grigsby....buyer declined he wanted to take the car home Sunday....probably to impress his friends..

16% covers the freight over and a tune up when the car arrives. And that's on a $25k car. Get into the longnoses, which is what this bubble thread is really about and the increased buying power will pay for a gearbox rebuild or engine refresh. It's not inconsequential.

Also generally US cars have less rust sunject to PPI. Lots of SC's and 3.2's even in England have heavy rust these days where as its easy to find a rust free car here still.

It definitely matters, but if this was just about currency, we would have seen the run when the euro was at 1.60.

I'm not denying that the economy is an influence. More that there are cultural factors driving prices, not inflation. Which would be raises the cost of all cars in similar percentages.

Check out the March 2014 article in car & Driver, pretty much sums it up pretty well.

"The happiest people in the hobby are the ones who buy what they like first and let the market worry about return on investment".

I agree with this, so long as the preferences and means overlap. And that is not always the case.

The price on 997 rs will drop as soon as the 991rs comes out next year. But as always low milage collectible cars will always hold their value pretty good. I don't think the air-cooled porsches will drop in price until the boys borne in the 70s will pass away. Such a iconic car that pretty much stayed the same for 30 years. Or when Obama says enough of these gas driven cars! now we are only allowing electric cars.

Nice way to inject politics in your first post.

Yes, tragically the economy for the last 5 years has boomed, supporting the bubble we're discussing.

I've been thinking it should end for nearly a year. But prices are still going up. If this is socialism, give me more!

Interesting seats. Those are not SA seats but actually the same as early Carrera ones. Dark Blue, with the Dark blue pattern fabric.
Is the car already sold and just not marked in the classifieds ?

It was sold last week and the new owner is reselling it now after a week.

Let's see if there are any biters.

That is an awful big spot of oil on the heat exchanger on another wise relatively clean engine.

Is it just my imagination or have mid-year values jumped SCs in comparable condition?

I asked the same question back in 2005.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/257058-porsche-bubble.html

Boy was I early. This was after I sold my beautiful '67S SWT for three times what I paid for it. Oh, and I bought it for less than $10K Kudos to the owner.

My broker has a saying "Sell them when they're yelling, and buy them when they're crying". Lots of yelling going on.

But it's this manic speculation that has driven me from the hobby. I haven't logged onto this place in months, and probably won't do so again. I've sold my last longhood, a one-owner '66, and my '74S.

I wait until there's some crying going on before I consider another 911. Until then back to the fun and value - 914's.

Bubble? Maybe once the bus is full, and everyone who wants one has one.....

It is really very easy. When the American housing market is good classic cars, collectables and high end watches sell like hot cakes. When the housing market cools then all prices go down. Way down. So just watch Zillow from time to time. While not perfect it will give you an idea of how things are going. Our San Diego finance guy on TV says everything points to a great Summer for Americans buying homes. So I would think it is a great time to sell your classic if you need to. Everything hooks onto home sales. Always.
