Hello guys, I read over most of the thread and could not find how do decipher a post 1987 930s vin. There is an 89 supposedly factory 930s I am looking to purchase and I would like to be completely sure it came this way from the factory. Below is a picture I found while reading the thread. Please let me know what info on it would point out a factory build. I would appreciate any input here.
Thanks, Manny ![]()

If you look at the option codes provided, it is indeed a factory slant. M505 (or M506 mostly in Europe) is the factory option code for the 930S, circa 1987-1989.

You can also punch in the VIN at Porsche VIN Decoder, VIN Lookup, Decode VIN to confirm the M505 option as the sticker can be a fake one.

So the "pink" car in your area now? That car was for sale up north a year or so ago.. Holt Motorsports.

The current owner has had it for a bit longer than that. Now that you mention it I remember seeing the one from Holt but didn't make the connection back then. The owner informed me it was paint to sample so I would gather it's the same one.....

Wow that's some good coin...Did anybody save any interior shots of the car? Back in my memory I remember it looked pretty good from the pics but I know when he got it the car needed some minor cosmetic work. Just looking to verify....

Just got her home
Hello, thanks for creating this thread guys. With the wisdom learned here, I navigated my way (after a year) to a Beautiful 1989 Factory Slant. It will join my 86 Targa in the garage. One of the many things I need to do to it, is make the headlight buckets flush. They are both sitting a little low. Any ideas how to do this? I saw an earlier post suggesting it was a 2 hour job. If I do it, it will take 4.
Thanks again ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Pretty simple actually. The little rubber cushions on the heads of the adjustment bolts probably broke off. You have to remove the front wheels and remove the front splash panel inside the wheelwell. You'll see two adjustment bolts on the stop arms of the headlamp assembly. One controls the limit of the headlight elevated and the other when the headlight is retracted. My guess is if you get new rubber cushions, the headlight retracted will be spot on.

Thanks Dave I appreciate the tip. Do you know where I can find those rubber cushions? I have not taken a look at my current ones but both lights are depressed by exactly the same amount so I would agree with you. I looked at our sponsors website but could not find anything for slant noses. Any tips on where to look?
Thanks again.

Trunk carpet
Any tips on where to find an OEM style trunk carpet for a slant nose? The only differnce is the area where the covers are for the light linkage are. I think I can modify a regular one but I just wanted to check in here before taking the plunge.
Thanks

Adjusting slant nose buckets
I decided to to try to adjust my headlight buckets. With some great advice from WERK I "Dave," I decided to give it a shot. I am so glad he responded, I would of tried to adjust the linkage in the trunk instead. Here is what I found. My adjusting bolt was still there along with its rubber cap. What I did find is that the stop nut was missing and the adjustment bolt had backed off pretty far. The other side was worse. It had backed off far enough that it fell off and was lost some time ago. He wasn't kidding how easy it was.
Sad looking bucket ![]() Step 1 ![]() Step 2 ![]() Here's the cause. Not a bad idea to check the lock nuts any time your wheels are off. I just got the caps for the other side but now I'm waiting on the adjusting bolt to come in! ![]() Nice and snug ![]() A little dusty but perfect ![]() I hope this helps someone down the line.

Flatnose
I am thinking of purchasing my friends flatnose Targa that has been laid up in his garage for several years. It has a German body kit on it, the make i do not know.
There are many parts that will need renewing or repairing. If there is a specific website i am interested as i absolutely zero working knowledge of air cooled 911 |
