my pleasure, see you're collecting info on the special wishes cars. I will try and get some better quality colour scans of the articles and send them to you. I am off on holiday for a week, will get them to you when I get back

were any of these imported into the US ? I imagine a lot of these would have been converted back to the stock look or to the pop up headlight look. Most folks would have thought these were aftermarket conversions (and not the best looking ones) and changed it.
I remember reading somewhere that about 18-20 cars were converted by werk 1 in 1982. anyone know the figure ?

I digress briefly to the topic of wheel center caps. On my '88 with color coded wheels the center caps are color coded as well but without painted crests. I really prefer the look of the painted crests but can't really tell from pictures if they are simply painted or are an insert. It also appears that the painted crests from the factory do not have the two holes in the center for removal. Can any of you with original painted center caps please provide me with a close up photo a little better than this? Also does anybody know if their was an option code for them?

I saw one of the non-vented no-popup light slantnoses in Indy at a high end car show in the late '80s. At that time I didn't know much about them and thought it was aftermarket. Later on I saw pictures of the early factory cars and realized it may have been factory.
No idea about the center caps. Every one I have seen has a painted crest with 2 holes.

Kilo, my 89 has the painted crests on them. From the looks of them they were on there since day one. I had the wheels redone and the caps painted over to match. From what I remember they were painted on and not inserts, I have some pictures of them. Before and after. If you look closely at the ones on the lift they did not protrude from the cap. You can also see two holes for the removal tool. I also included one off another 89 factory slant (red) that odly enough does not have the holes and looks like it protrudes a bit. They are body colored wheels though.
The only thing I could imagine is that the body colored (not black) wheels had different center caps if ordered with painted crests. I looked at my CA and found no listing for them and no listing in my sales brochure either. The mystery continues............. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

here is a pic of my 84, smooth fenders and pop up lights. 930/66 engine. it is supposedly a special wishes car but i don't claim it as such as i have no way of knowing for certain. I just had the engine rebuilt this summer and the Porsche shop that did the work said its the first S engine they had ever seen or worked on. The guy doing the work had been working at the Dealership when it was originally imported(Scottsdale Porsche). I have known the car since 1985 and has looked like this since the firs time i saw it when i was 11. A family member owned it. I bought it last year as i knew i had to have it one day! Whether its authentic or not i still love the look and the experience of driving it.

Finish on Slats
I am in the process of sprucing up my undercarriage and wheel wells and found out how easy it is to take the slats out. I haven't gotten to the passenger side but the driver side has one screw per slat. Came off nice and easy. I figure the other side I just have to move the oil cooler and same deal.
Now what finish to apply?? I shot one with Krylon semi flat and it looks pretty good. The niceness of flat with a hint of sheen. One step above flat and one step below semi gloss. Can anyone chime in on what was original, my slats have faded over time. My car is an 89 and the slats are 100% composite. I know some earlier years had wood. Check out pictures below yellow circles are location for each screw location. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Check out the one I sprayed. ![]()

I don't have any closeups right now but your picture looks real close. Mine are in perfect shape and the finish is definitely less than semi-gloss and very close to some of the satin paints like Rustoleum 7777 with perhaps just a hint more sheen. Or as it might look if you didn't shake the can very thoroughly.

A friend of mine who restores Porsche's professionally uses an aerosol spray found in most automotive paint stores. It is neither flat black nor glossy but satin. Does an excellent job of matching. Used it on my brake vent strakes and they came out great.

Looks like they came out great. I wouldn't look at them twice and think that they were redone...

Hadn't seen pics of these before but the old argument of wooden slats verses composite always comes up with both sides digging in. I know mine are composite and as we have just seen 1986911's are as well. Right now on Ebay is a conversion kit for adding the brake duct vents. This kit while pretty crude has wooden slats.

The ones pictured I would thik were probably copied in wood considering the rest of the actual duct appears to be fiberglass. Kilo, I just love that car of yours btw! Unusual color combo and 505. ![]() That's the stuff I've used.. and yes, it works very well.

At one time, you could get/order factory center caps with painted crests on black, or body color fuchs. There was also the option of enameled crests which were recessed into the caps as pictured below.. I kept these when I sold one of my cars took them apart to paint & match body color as they had been on the previous car. ![]()

That explains the the different post in the center of mine. Onboost, can you check the back of your caps to see if they look like mine? ![]()

i have the same caps on my BBS rims and i don't think they are snug enough, the last owner put tape around them to snug them up, but that does not seem tight. how are you guys getting these to fit snug. I put a post on the 911 forum and one suggestion was silicon.
