There's nothing wrong with "doing it your own way" but the order of assembly is just different than usual. "Open" is good, the guys you need to watch out for are the ones who have stopped learning (they already "know everything").

Most people put all the cylinders on first, and then the heads. That's what prompted my comment.

On the sealant issue:
Most builders (but not all) use Loctite 574 to seal the case halves.
574 only hardens in the absence of air so any extra just gets washed away without hurting anything. Sealant that hardens when exposed to air can create bits that fall off inside the engine clogging oil passages and blowing motors. The black sealant that squeezed out on the outside of that motor also squeezed out on the inside.

Let's get that puppy running, summer is too short!
-Chris

Chris,

If the guy do authorize me to post the pictures, it means that he is ready to share and learn. I think potentially this is a big risk for him doing that. I do not know how they work in US, but here this is an exception. This is one of the reason I like this garage and the mechanic.

Did someone criticize the sturdiness of this engine stand? As everyone can see, one does not need an "official engine holder" to properly rebuild a 911.

You are right.
Even if some methods can be criticated by specialists, this engine WILL work well.

This car will probably be globally performant
Phe does the things entirely, that few proschists do, and will have a nice 911.
Congratulations !

Luc.
