A special find in a 73"S"
When this engine was removed from it's chassis, a 1973 911 S (with Bromos race history) we were told it was a 2.7 RS. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that the engine was actually a 3.0 RS. A single plug 3.0 MFI engine built on a sand cast RSR 3.0 engine case. In 30 years this is the only one I've ever seen.

Over the next few weeks I'll share the build we did on this very rare engine.

Wow! That would be one time 'non-matching numbers' actually added value!
Look forward to the story. |

Very Cool.
Are the case dimensions the same as the early sand cast case? I realize head stud and spigot are likely larger to accommodate the (presumably) 95mm P/C set.

Quote:
The unique characteristics that are different than the early 2.0 sand cast case is stud spacing half way between between 2.0-2.7 and 3.0-3.3. Very rare. Special heads as well. The other difference is the 5 studs for mounting chain boxes vs 3 studs and 2 pins. The intermediate shaft has thrust bearings similar to what was common on later cases. There are also a considerable number of reinforcements in this casting including a larger base for the cylinder mounting.

3.0 engine.......
Very interesting and a real "looker"! Are those Mahle pistons? If so, do you know the compression ratio? Also, what level of horsepower do you expect this engine to make? The pistons look very similar to the Mahle pistons that I used in my 3.3SS build. My set were 10.1:1 compression.

As we progress, we will post a pictures of the custom injection we built for this project but until then here's the pump you built for this project.
Some Supertec, some Burnham Performance and some MFI Werks magic all came together to produce a very special pump. ![]() ![]() Burnham Performance 1071 Avenida Acaso ste.D Camarillo, Ca. 93012 805-240-6931 rennwerks@hotmail.com MFI Werks 10227 N.W.
