but the charcoal canister is ever so fun!
if at all possible, don't deprive yourself of the ritual. mine fell off the first time i rode it home. poor thing hit the concrete right there on the high-zoot, well-lit concrete. i immediately called my dealer to complain. the service guy laughed, then hung up on me. ...brad

*sigh* Now why did my heart sink a little when I read a Motoman post saying "the '99 R1100S is a known lemon." Is that true?

dang, my GF is gonna bum pretty bad. she's got just under 60K on hers, brought brand new. only thing to ever go bad was an alternator belt - but they all do that - and rear brake pad pins got rusty and froze up a rear caliper. gonna really hurt her to find that she's been riding a lemon all these years. bet she never woulda even tried to do the Iron Butt on it. bet she woulnd'ta finished the IB if she realized it was such a lemony POS. dang.
no, j-dock, ya better stay away from that '99.

A+ for sarcasm density Mr. Fish.
![]() I take it that's a "don't worry about the '99s reliability relative to any other years" then... Didn't they come in a lemony color?

it is NOT MPY.....it is however school bus, hwy sign marking Yellow and I have yet to call my bike a lemon, with all the miles I have on it....it only gets smoother to ride. And i never come home without smiling after a few minutes riding it.

"Manly, Proud Yellow?"
The Deutsche color pallette is certainly... unique. I like the cream on Roger's /2 a lot actually, reminds me of early 60s VW colors. Don't think the Wolfsburg edition bugs came in DDP though, which is too bad as they could have used the superior aerodynamics and lighter electrics. Emily says that yellow is worth 10 extra hp... would the Titanium/Yellow be worth at least five? w00t!

OK, didn't know if it was "urine" or "puke" in the vernacular.
I've learned so much already!

Did anyone know the pre 2002 (think that's right) models had a weakness where the tranny mounts to the frame producing a hairline crack in many cases?

Seems to ring a bell.

that's the reason they totalled out my S even though BMW has voluntarily corrected the problem in many cases free of charge.
