Cheap 959 Thread

What do you think guys? Should I pull the trigger? I'll have to sell my house and cash in my 401k to get it, but I don't know if I'll find another one in my price range ever again...

Ask Wayne how hard parts are to find. I'd buy it only if I could afford Bruce Canape to repair it.

$500,000 for this? It would make sense if you had another one that had been damaged in the rear.

I kinda don't get it. If you can afford a million dollar car, can't you afford to fix the million dollar car, too? What's the repair tab on that going to be? Few hundred thou? At least source a wheel to make it a roller. There's some part of the story I'm missing.

I agree. Either someone is so wealthy they don't care or there is another reason they won't or can't fix it. I'd fix it. It's a 959 people! Come on!

It is a hideous looking car.

It looks like Porsche stuck the back end of an NSX on a 911. Blah, blah blah...

I remember when Wayne bought his. It had some issues, and the price reflected that.
I won't say what he paid, it was lot of money then but compared to todays prices it was the deal of the century.

This is a 1987 Porsche 959 that I have "rescued" from an owner who has had it parked for more than 4 years with no significant driving or running. It's in very nice condition, but it is best described as a "project car" - there are many little electrical and computer problems with the car that will need to be worked on. In typical Pelican fashion, I will take many, many pictures and post them here for all to see. I will be working closely with the folks at Callas Rennsport here in Los Angeles, on the restoration and repair of this 959. Callas Rennsport has a bunch of 959 customers, and they have the tools, computers, and manuals needed to wade through the complicated electronics of this car.

I'd be curious to read about Wayne's misadventures. Does anyone have a link? The 959 was on my bedroom wall as a kid...

Project Car: 959 - The PPI...

959 PPI Update, RE: Color Change...

Starting work on the 959 Project Car...

Wayne represents the American dream where a person can achieve anything with enough dedication, sacrifice, drive and hard work. And he deserves every reward he gets, I hope they are worth what they cost.
I'm glad he has a 959 and those other special cars. He earned them AFAIC

This is the thread i like the most, where the guy takes the car out and uses it for what it was designed for!!
brass ones.

I had no idea that 959s ran 57 psi in the tires!!!

Quote:
For those that couldn't ride with me today, the 959 feels like this: From about 1K to 5K the car is a good performer, very much like a good, solid 3.2 engine. You say to yourself, "hmm, this feels pretty good, it has good power". Then at about 5000, an invisible hand comes down from the clouds and gives a huge shove to the back of the car from 5K to 7500 RPM. If you shift down from 7500, the transmission puts you right back at 5000 with full boost for the next gear. Very well designed in that respect, and you can accelerate with 400-450 HP throughout the range.
Whoops - Wayne spins the 959 at Willow...

^^^ That's a 962, not a 959. You're off by 3 numbers.
