Still, we are testing at an increasing rate. No matter if that increasing rate is increasing rapidly enough for your liking.

I think Sweden is referring to lockdown of countries and destruction of national economies, not just hotspots or some cities.

FWIW, I see people are getting back to it.

Through all of this I've been driving through both Seattle and Bellevue and noting the traffic, or lack there of. But traffic is most definitely coming back. Hardware and grocery stores are very busy.

I suppose many will still cower in the corner with their crayon graphs, while they chant OMB OMB

What do you see in the benefit of rapidly increasing testing w/o tracing and tracking people? Today's clean test can be tomorrows asymptomatic carrier.

If and when lockdown restrictions are lifted in the US, would you agree to let the government anonymously track your interactions with people within a 6-foot radius to control the spread of Covid-19?........Some of these Covid-19 tracking technologies — like mandatory electronic wristbands in Hong Kong that tip off authorities when people under quarantine leave their homes — seem implausible in the US.......

Yeah, that's an excellent point....and tracing people's movements gets into some tricky territory. I suppose without that though, the usefulness of testing is extremely marginalized. Point taken.

I don't see this as tricky territory.

My liberty does not end where your fear begins.

We all drive. Do we end driving for the masses so that only essential drivers are on the road?

You know, take YOU off the road because I (being essential) am afraid that you might hit me?

Now certainly we take old, high risk people off the road. Similarly that is what Sweden is doing - they are taking the old, high risk people into social distancing - not social distancing and shutting down the productive class.

What?

Yesterday we performed 156,000 tests
Two weeks ago we performed 132,000 in a day
A month ago we performed 14,000 tests in a day

Paul, I am guessing you are looking at CDC test data. It only counts tests done at public labs. The vast majority of testing is done in private labs and is not reflected in CDC data.

Lets remember some fundamental truths here boys and girls.
-The world has always been a dangerous place.

-The mortality rate is still 100%!!! Everyone dies.
-Old people die. People with bad health die easier.

-You can live a healthy lifestyle and get hit by a car walking into the natural foods grocery store.
-You can be a fitness freak and slip in the shower and die.
-You can stay away from cities and then get bit by a snake and die from an allergic reaction.

Am I saying do stupid stuff? No. Just don't become a victim of fear and stop enjoying life because being in fear will not stop you from dying some day.

Everyone needs to reconcile two things:
1) I will face an end to this mortal life whether I like it or not.
2) Until then, I need to decide what risks I feel are worth taking.

The question then remains how much does a government dictate what risks I am willing to take. That, is something that opens up another can of PARF worms.

Just stumbled into this thread.

Sorry, but what does PARF mean? I Googled it, and only came up with some car-related fee, which seems irrelevant.

Thanks.

Ahhh.....that explains it. Surprisingly, at least to me (or maybe just this thread, lol), a lot more civil than PARF's elsewhere, which I avoid once I'm aware.

Thank you very much. Off to garage to play with cars.
