Road to Nowhere
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Two final hints.....William Mulholland did have something to do with this road. Indirectly and directly. What goes down on its back with wheels spinning and toes pointed really fast?? ![]()

I know of a group of guys that have no fear that use this stretch of road for an "unconventional soap box derby". They come up a few times a month to practice and the CHP lets them do it. In fact the CHP kicks it and watch's then everyone goes home. Smooth enough for these guys think how smooth it is in a car? For the most part this is the busiest you will ever see it. Another hint. The road was constructed for the single purpose of getting super size heavy equipment to a really super size construction project many years ago. Except for maintenance employee's no one really uses it at all. Then there is the intersecting road that goes for 6 more miles! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Slight setback on the MFI pump today. Lets just say that the crank shaft isn't turning as freely as it was before
![]() Chris, here's another link that has a number of links. Maybe some help in here: 1971 911E Fuel injection problem Scanning through, there are a number of refs, to soaking piston area as you were doing, for a couple of days and keep turning the crank. Dave

Hey Chris and Dave, haven't posted in a looong time, but have been lurking frequently and enjoying your exploits in the brush. Very cool. I am glad to see you are resurrecting the Carrera even if I don't know her. Also very cool. Great idea to post photos of the resurrection as it is totally appropriate based on the direction that this thread has taken. I just wanted to give you a heads up as you get that MFI pump running. You may have already seen it, but Jeff Higgins started a very detailed thread on tuning his 73T MFI pump to run his 3.0L and seems to have unlocked the mystery surrounding its "black magic" adjustment. It is a great read and might help you fine tune your pump when you get it working again.
Good luck and keep us posted with lots of pics.

[QUOTE=Jeff Hail;3842461]I thought you might be the one to figure it out Dave but you responded first anyhow. The location is much farther west.

I have looked over the links that have been posted, thanks guys. We have several problems to resolve. 1. The control rack which richens/leans the mixture according to temp/press. is only moving 1.5mm. It should move about a cm. All gear cams move but by only a fraction of a mm. After a lot of soaking and playing with it, it improved only slightly. 2. Five of the six small pistons that allow gas to each injector line are frozen up badly. Only one functions perfectly. 3. Rust is visible on the inside of the injector lines ![]() 4. Although I recently took out the gas tank and had it acid dipped to clean it, and cleaned out the fuel lines with methyl alcohol and compressed air, I suspect that the fuel distributer that holds the fuel filter is mucked up as well. This is reletively easy to clean. However the new fuel pump is now probably in need of cleaning since bad fuel traveled thru it. One of the links suggested soaking the pump in Berryman's B-12 Chemtool. The user claimed that after a soak in that B-12, the pump virtually fixed itself. (He must have a genie in a bottle as well). Does anyone know where I can get either? Just joking. We will have to soak it overnight probably. Last edited by Banning; 03-22-2008 at 07:20 AM.. |

Road to Nowhere
Also, there's a road I see when I'm on I-5, driving south past Pyramid Lake. It's just south of Pyramid Lake, across the canyon to the west. The only access I see to it is a dirt turn-off (service road) off of I-5, from the trucker brake check stop just south of the Pyramid Lake exit. Looks wide, sweeping, curvy, and always deserted. Anyone know it?

The road on the west side of the 5 is the "other road to nowhere". This was formerly Hwy 99 until the 5 Fwy replaced it. It dead ends into Pyramid Dam. Really great hikes in this area. It is also famous in a few old photos that were taken of James Dean in his last drive with destiny. A large ranger station midway along this road does not go well with spirited driving as this road is patrolled regularly. Still an encouraged drive. ![]()

That's it! Although instead of getting off at the exit on the 5 take the back way up The Ridge Route. One you pass the school and the water tank its fun time.......all the way to nowhere
Then on the way back keep going west to the freeway, cross under and make a right to checkout the other road to nowhere. You will end up somewhere ![]()
