Should be easy enough in this day and age. I have a couple telemarketer friends and a JW and a e-mail spam atrtist. I'd be willing to bet they can find him! PM me everything you know 'bout him and I'll turn the dogs loose.

Sorry for the somewhat OT, but I don't think it's that far off. Looking at the Camaro above reminds me of a couple of issues of Car Craft or Hot Rod that made a major impression on me as I was growing up. One was the thread about Hybrids (I think the 911 w/ the mid engine Chevy w/ the intake sticking through the rear window - burgundy with Epsilon wheels - might have even been posted on this thread somewhere), and then the issue with canyon carvers featuring a very cool late 70s-early 80s Camaro with similar flares to the above, as well as other similarly flared cars. Does anyone know the cars I'm talking about? I understand there have been countless cars built over the past 80 some odd years, but still. If anyone remembers them, it'll be you guys.

Thanks again for allowing us to understand appreciate the mystique behind Mulholland.

**Update***
Way back many pages ago on this thread a photo was posted of this car.
Interesting life this car had. It was first modified by a canyon racer in big block form of all things with a 4 speed in 1976. It appeared in Super Chevy Magazine twice (1978?? not confirmed) and in 1980 and then disappeared......The car re-appeared in 1984 and was sold through the San Fernando Valley Recycler less engine and trans. It was bought by Dave V. of Sun Valley and a 350 was installed along with another 4 speed. Word of mouth says it frequented Mulholland regularly in its early life. The car remained hidden in an underground parking lot in Van Nuys on Sherman Way for two years and was seldom driven due to "cop magnet" issues. It did run some street races at Glenoaks and Pendleton until that was shutdown. The car supposedly was sold again and never seen again.

Dave is an old friend whom I have not seen in 14 years who collected 69' SS El Camino's in the 80's. I have a strange feeling this car may still be in Daves hands having been hidden away for all these years along with a very rare El Camino.

I first was introduced to this car in 1984 when Dave asked me to look at some of the fiberglass work that was cracking around the flares. The Imron paint job was very well done but due to age of the work and other issues a lot of work and total re-spray was needed. The car was still a 10, 10 at that time. Up close it show it signs of battle.

Now I just need to find Dave and find out what happened to the car?
I've had this picture since late '78 early '79, the car was built and owned at the time by Bill Sedgwick.
He built this car as his focus changed from street racing his Hot '67 Chevelle with it's big block 427 and dual quad setup to this big block Camaro and roundy round racing.

It will never be over. Too much fun, too much to share. The road, the thread and everyone involved. Elvis may be dead but WE have not left the building yet.

Just my way of throwing a rock through the window and waking it back up.
It's my job!

How about this Wednesday (at Truckstop) night and a follow up at "Ye Public House" on Laurel? Lets see how many remember?

Radu- night night? Put Bentley to bed but you must be out and about sharpening those skills at the wee hours of the night! What a better place than Mulholland.

The pieces of history for this car have come together. Dave has been found through his brother. This is the same Sedgwick car. It appeared in both Super Chevy and Car Craft Magazines. Some bad karma came with the ownership of this Camaro. After it was sold sometime in 1985 two aquaintences who who were longtime "Sun Valley" childhood friends parted ways in a rift after the wheels & tires were "borrowed permanently" and found in the others garage resulting in a lot of ugliness. The license plate has been verified from this photo and the Camaro was again sold at the end of 1985 by Dave V. for $6500. Dave said the car had to be sold as it would not pass emissions here without serious investment adding it was actually a 396 car from the factory. The fiberglass flares, chin spoiler and cowl induction scoop were showing serious wear and tear with age worse than when I had seen the car. Lots of cracks in the bodywork. The buyer was from Arizona which was still dirty emissions friendly in 1985-86.

Thanks Jeff! Noah930 sent it to me a last week. I didn't really care for the aerobatics by the B-29 at the end. I installed a small rocket on top of one of my gas R/C off road cars.

If the wind stays down, I'm going to try and reach 4000' vMSL tomorrow. If windy, take the 911 out and continue to explore my new found power.

The R/C B-29 was a bit off in scale yet still fun to watch doing barrel/loops in flight. I enjoyed the four engine start up and sound even more than the flight.

You put a rocket motor in an R/C car? Years ago Estes made rocket cars called "Land Rockets" in which I lit off an installed D motor at Valley College above the B motor maximum design...never found the car.
It was a spectacular ignition sequence thought! Bigger is better.

R/C car was driven by gas motor, if my radio had more servos, the rocket could have been mounted to a rotating pad (think missile).

Truckstop @ 8:00pm

Whoa! I forgot that wednesday is my 20 year anniversary with my wife, and although I'm sure that she would love to celebrate at Truckstop (He, He), I believe she really wants to go out to dinner. Can we make it tuesday evening? Tuesday will be a warmer evening because it's going to get cooler as the week progresses.
I'll bring my laptop and show you guys a TV special (that few have seen) about Mulholland Racing that aired in 1982. I can post it to this thread later in the week if you want.

That's quite interesting Bart. Your red Camaro that looked very similar to the one in the photo was the inspiration for me to build my red SCCA Camaro. I thought your Camaro looked way cool.
John Hall and I went to pick up my Camaro one day near LAX. It was blue (at the time) and had a built 427 in it. A few weeks later, I was coming up Beverly Glen at full throttle with Dave Gainey as passenger. At about 110 mph, the engine blew, the hood flew off, and that was the end of the big block. During the course of several years I made many modifications to the car that are listed below. This is the car that I raced at RIR and got my competition license in.

There is an interesing story associated with this car. I have told it before.
One night while at a "Mulholland" party, this time at Johns (my house was used also), I thought that I would just take a run thru the course. I had taken my Camaro racecar that evening to the party. The year was 1983 I think. Anyway I drove past Grandstands and there were plenty of cars and people around (about 40 cars). I did not see the undercover police car hiding back up Bowmont.

I also didn't know that that the cops had set up a dragnet to catch some joker named Darrell who had a 1970 red Camaro, he had been tormenting the cops for weeks. As I approached Deadmans, an uneasy feeling hit me, like being too far from home. Around Deadmans were two police cars in a V formation blocking Mulholland with guns drawn, (I found this out later).

So just before Deadmans I did a power fishtail to return back to Grandstands not knowing what awaited me around the turn. As I pulled into Grandstands Chuck Turner and others came running up to my car yelling, "Get out of here, there are three cops behind you and you are in trouble". I looked behind in the rear view mirror and "Oh Crapp", lots of lights and sirens. So what's a Mulholland racer going to do? We have a saying, "WHEN IN DOUBT, GO FLAT OUT". I barely got out of there with the rear end dancing and sliding around while being pursued and now going west. I got home, and while quickly covering my car in the carport, I see cop cars blazing back and forth on Mulholland looking for me.

You know, I really liked that car, (but there was no way that I could keep it now). Great! Now I have two cars that the cops would really like to impound (me included). That's because I had done a similar thing in the Carrera the year before at Horseshoe. After that one, the cops harrassed everyone on Mulholland for two weeks saying, "Who is the guy with the silver Porsche?" That's a kind of popularity that I didn't need.

So, I sold the Camaro and that was the end of my SCCA racing.

On a side note: Two weeks later, the signs that read, "No Parking, Dusk til Dawn" went up.

Ye Public House was Shakee's but Four 'n Twenty is pretty much right next door.
Tuesday is fine......anyone else?

I was thinking ACR days when I mentioned Four 'n Twenty.

Sorry Jeff, I remember now that you and your friends hung out at Shakee's.

The CRE hung out at Tiny Naylors.

Each group of Mulholland racers usually had their own place to eat, talk, and hang out at. Kinda cool huh?

A sign of the time

First parking restrictions then traffic/speed cameras and now a new sign of the times.
