The Hill is one of those places in the world that draws you in.....from its beacon at night to it's endless views. Many nicer places to be and see but this mountain calls us to return. With each visit it takes us back ........

I was just thinking about that tower tonight, Jeff.
Radu and I were discussing the finer points of navigating pot holes in apexes. Thanks for that.

He is also an excellent Porsche Mechanic with lots of well-developed fabrication skills. He knows things about the Porsche's electrical system that few mechanics will ever know. I owe much to Arnie. He sold me his racecar, so I could build mine. I know this was a sacrifice for him. Then he did a lot of beautiful work to the car, so did John Mason. I always remember Arnie with good thoughts and wishes. I sincerely wish that his life has been the best it could be and that he has been and always will be a happy person. I ran into Arnie at OSH two years back, he looked just like I remember him. The years have been good to him, as he hasn't aged much at all. Without Arnie's car and his help, my life would have driven a different course. Thank you Arnie. Last edited by Banning; 04-07-2008 at 11:08 AM.. |

This could be anywhere. Starbucks, In & Out or Mulholland.
Reading between the lines there was no racing they just busted everyone because they had " modified cars", nuisance violations, and were"enthusiasts. The economy is low and pressure to write tickets to feed the cash cow is high. This is a sign of the time's in the making. Disturbing is the part of the article that reads "Officers then began a warrantless search and interrogation operation of the 150 vehicles that were present.". Also first calling them "enthusiast's" then labelling them "participants". Was racing in the nights agenda? My thoughts young folks and modified cars combined -yes somewhere! A Police state is also a sign of the times too. Used to be one cop pulled you over and maybe another one in the passenger seat. Worst was when three cars got ya or you got roughed up and maybe jail. Now it's an ARMY of inter- agency government employees with hand held electric chairs . I loved the comment from the Traffic Sergeant. Had to laugh. Loitering tickets must not be paying off. I bet the attorneys are going to have a ball with "street racing venue" and " Riverside Police offered no evidence that any street racing actually took place". Article California: Police Raid Car Enthusiast Gathering, Generate Revenue Police raid Riverside, California parking lot to issue modified car tickets at local car enthusiast gathering. Using $503,000 in federal and state gas tax revenue to pay for overtime, nine police agencies in Riverside, California sent more than one hundred police officers to surround a gathering of automotive enthusiasts. Owners of imported sport compact cars had gathered at the Canyon Crossing shopping center on Friday night to swap stories, talk about their passion for cars and show off the latest enhancements to their rides. At around 11pm police surprised participants by blocking all exits with fifty police cruisers. Officers then began a warrantless search and interrogation operation of the 150 vehicles that were present. ![]() "If you're not into street racing, why would you need that?" Riverside Police Traffic Sergeant Skip Showalter asked an enthusiast during a similar crackdown last year. "Why would you want more power going to your car?" Police issued a total of forty-eight tickets for "engine modifications" with police accusing the owners of the parked vehicles of being street racers. Another fifty tickets were issued for paperwork violations, dark window tinting and lack of a front license plate. The most revenue, however, will be generated from the fees imposed on twenty vehicles that were confiscated. Despite labeling the parking lot raid as taking place at a "street racing venue," Riverside Police offered no evidence that any street racing actually took place. Across the state, gas tax funds are regularly used to fund similar crackdowns that generate big revenue. In 2004, the California Highway Patrol issued a total of 101,553 "modified car" citations worth $10.5 million according to CHP data obtained by TheNewspaper. Other law enforcement agencies participating in Friday night's raid included the California Highway Patrol, Riverside County Sheriff's Department, and police from Baldwin Park, Fontana, Irwindale, Moreno Valley, Ontario and Mount San Jacinto Community College.

We have called our local Councilman and complained about this for approximately 6 years now. Their response is that they will repair the potholes as soon as they can. Do any of you remember how they were "repairing" the potholes about 9 months ago on Mulholland, this happened because of residents complaining. The problem is that they don't repair the potholes. Please check out the huge mound of asphalt at Deep Canyon and Mulholland. It is 6 inches high. It will destroy your suspension or lowered car, or both for sure, if you hit it. They say that they don't have the resources to re-pave Mulholland. But I bet the truth is that they don't have the resources to patrol Mulholland once it is repaved. They know it will be Le Mans again on Mulholland if it is fixed. They are waiting for the cameras, so that they won't need to patrol as much. I got a ticket deep in Franklin Canyon recently for failing to stop fully at a stop sign. The damn automatic camera got me. Well, guess what? That is what will eventually happen all over the place, they won't need cops to issue traffic violations. They will do it with cameras. Remember the book 1984? We all laughed when it was required reading in High School, it is no laugh now. By the way, in the past John Hall and I would go out and fix a pot hole that was in the apex of a turn sometimes. After really messing up the alignment a few times on a certain hole, we figured it was smarter to fix it now then to wait a year for the city to fix it. By that time, our cars would be wasted. If you want, I'll buy the asphalt if you come with me to fix the hole. I'm getting tired of memorizing the pothole locations so that I can avoid them. There was one on Coldwater two years ago that was so big, an entire wheel would fit inside it (really hard on Suspension). Last edited by Banning; 04-08-2008 at 06:50 AM.. |

As we lose our freedoms, we are being taken over by a police-state as Jeff said. Do any of you believe that any of this will cease or get better? These car enthusiasts wern't there dealing crack, raping young girls, or stealing, or doing anything that warranted the abuse that they suffered. As the world gets more crowded, our problems with just living will increase. I have made a chart to show future projections and I will premiere it here for your enjoyment. ![]() Derek, I have collected files of scientific evidence to support these projections. This is not BS! I actually was harrassed and thrown out of a "skate"park for riding a Bicycle in it. The cop drove his motorcycle into the park, and past 3 kids LITERALLY dealing drugs. One kid DROPPED CRACK on the the ground behind the cop, while I was being threatened with a fine and ticket for riding a bicycle where it is designated to skateboards. true story.
