The last couple times I've had the corvair on Muholland I've gotten some good natured kidding about not being able to run with the 911 crowd. I've allways claimed I was sand bagging 'cause you guys can outbrake me due to the four wheel drum brakes on Scrufus.
Well times they are a changin..............or should I say those are the brakes?
Well these are the brakes on the front of Scrufus now.


Chevy S10 4wd disc and calipers. All off the shelf parts with minor mods to the stock corvair hub.

Thanks Derek. I recently spent a bu**load on the carbs too. Four rebuilds just aching to dump some fossil fuels into the combustion chambers( while we still have it to burn)!

Now let's install the nitrous oxide fuel injection and blow some of the other cars off that you've been wanting to.

Maybe some exotic bodywork is in order too, ala George Barris, or rather ala Kevin. I've heard that you are a better fabricator than you own up to.

Kidding aside and no excuses. Build plan changed a little which added to the timeframe ( custom suspension bits and brake stuff). My original plan was 6-8 months. Had parts issues that stretched it longer. Then decided to change the build again (surprise). End of last summer when it was 115 really put a damper on things. (got lazy). Work is progressing nicely. I have everything except oil tank and lines and a steering wheel to complete. I just need to get it done and have a lot to do. So when will it be done? When its done! Check back in 2 weeks!

First meet of 2008.....lite turnout but nice to see everyone who showed up again. Seems like last time we got together was hot and fires burning everywhere. Was a tad chilly out! Chris brought a new twist into the evenings programming....I will let him share that when he gets a chance to post.










Kevin we missed ya but I heard you have a "must have done" project to complete. Gotta do what ya gotta do! Next time.

Noah was our newest guest and I have to say a dry clutch and desmodromic valves were music to my ears all the way across the hill.

Porsche Crest 2008 on Mulholland

Last evening was a lot of fun. Jeff arrived first and took some nice photos. He just posted some of them taken at twilight and after twilight.
After about 20 minutes, and after calling Radu (who was working out at the gym), and Kevin (who was finishing a project), we were going to move to the end of Mulholland. Before that however, we found that Noah930 was coming up. In a few minutes, he blazed up on his racing motorcycle and we were on our way.
Chris (Porcupine) let the pack to dirt Mul. It was a spirted, but sane drive thru the hills. Dave got a slight adrenaline shot when his Targa got sideways. Way to go Dave, good save.

After arriving we found it to be a little warmer and more pleasant than Truckstop, where there always seems to be a draft.
Since this was the first meeting of 2008, I brought old TV specals done about Mulholland racing and showed them on Laptop. Then we watched the highlights of King of the Mountain. It's never boring to watch Dennis Hopper (or the stuntman) race that old primered Corvette on Mulholland. It brings back the memories.
Lots of stars out, and a pleasant evening with friends, made for a great time for everyone.

On the back of Jeff's shirt it reads, "Every night from dusk til dawn"

I now understand why motorcycles were never a big part of the nocturnal Mulholland racing scene. Even for the segments of the road which I've committed to memory, it's a different adventure to go through those areas at night. The stock lighting on a bike just isn't sufficient to look through the corners, which might be hiding gravel, water, or broken asphalt. (By the way, thanks to whoever filled in the pothole in the middle of the Sweeper.)

When I got home, my wife asked me what we did. I kinda explained to her, and she just rolled her eyes, heh heh. She thinks we're such geeks. 6 grown men, standing on the side of a lightly-traveled road, at night, freezing their butts off, watching videos on a laptop... If a cop came by and that computer had any questionable porn on it, we'd all have been hauled off to the pokey for the night.

Thanks for joining in, it was great to have a motorcycle run with us along Mulholland.

If a cop does ever come by, I'll invite them to join the fun like I did last year.
The only video that will ever be seen on my laptop on Mulholland, is stuff that is directly related to Mulholland. That's the way it is, and there's more old Mulholland to see.

Porsche Crest Interesting Ride

This looked quite interesting.
We can get all the Mulholland racers from the past and present, and hold a race on these little buggers thru the racecourse.
Now that would be fun!





A young inventor from Canada is currently seeking investors to manufacture his eye-catching creation. Ben Gulak, 18 years of age, says that he came up with the concept because according to him, "if something doesn't look cool people just won't be interested." And right he was (to some extent) since the prototype of the unicycle motorbike called "Uno" has been igniting the interests of many. Uno is equipped with a single switch to turn the machine on or off. Its speed and direction is controlled solely by the movement of one's body. The motorbike uses gyroscopic technology to stay balanced, and is equipped with two gyros, one meant for turning, and another for going forward and backward

Uno runs and accelerates as you lean forward into the bike, going at a maximum speed of 25mph; although Gulak says it can go faster with a bigger motor. Frankly though, I believe 25mph is good enough for something which seems to be quite scary to ride. But then again, as Ben says, you need to learn to trust the Uno first. Can you blame me for thinking it'll make for a heart-pumping ride? Sure, the Uno has a couple of wheels, but they're right next to each other, creating an illusion of a unicycle. What's great about it being quite small though is that it's only 120 pounds, and you can actually carry it indoors to be recharged--a single charge is enough for 2.5 hours of transport. Let's just hope it's safe for actual usage if and when it's manufactured for public consumption.
