Nice purple seat belts

I know, it's the camera...

Just make sure that whomever sits in it to smog, sits gently! Looks like the leather is going to fall apart.

Headlights, brake lights, horn, turn signals, parking brake, windshield wipers, spare tire & jack... don't overlook anything... we don't wanna hear you didn't get it because of something silly, Chris.

She looks great.

And ready to frighten small children and wild animals.

Thanks Dave!

One panel needs replacement badly. Probably four will be replaced in the near future.

They are 35 years old.

Thanks John.

Aside from the illegal racing tires, loud exhaust, too low, lexan glass, racing motor, highly modified body, silver 14 pnt. roll cage, missing front plate, and illegal emmisions for the year registered, I'm sure it will be just fine.

It should be interesting.

Here's a couple from this freezing morning...

Don't let the looks deceive you, it was damn cold, enough to turn a little stream of water flowing across the road into ice. Then there were all the other black ice spots. Over all, it was fun. I'd say only 20% of the morning was spent crawling over ice patches.

That GT3 sounded great. From a distance, as it was climbing up the mountain, I thought it was a Turbo. Looking at your pic, clearly it's not. I was wondering why a turbocharged car was so loud, as the honking exhaust sounded naturally-aspirated to me at the time.

I had a CHP on my tail out to our meeting spot this morning. I get on the fwy and notice him a couple of cars behind me and he starts to move around them. Since I am running 40 wt and it was about 32 degrees this morning, I was running extra slow and keeping the shifts way down, staying in the slow lane. The fwy was empty and I think he was expecting me to open it up....

He gets off the fwy and I still keep in the slow lane, keeping the speed down. I had a feeling that he got off the fwy, then got right back on... As I get off the fwy, I see him in my rear view . Sucker!

Registration fun

Thanks for the good luck wishes guys. I hope that it has a delayed reaction.

This morning started by calling the DMV in Sacremento to talk to a supervisor. It took 14 minutes of waiting on the phone to reach a human to talk to.

I was told it was neccessary to get the OK from a supervisor to exempt the Car from penalties. This was possible to due to being in storage for over 10 years.

After telling the clerk that I had been instructed to call this number to talk to a supervisor by a previous registration clerk, I was told that I was given the wrong information and that I would have to make and appointment to see a supervisor at a local office. Such good service at government agencies.

I made an appointment with the clerk but still was itching to get this done sooner. So I went to the Pacoima DMV which is usually not crowded. What a mistake!
It was so crazy that no parking was available anywhere. I can't imagine what it looked like inside. Only slightly discouraged, I returned home.

So I have an appointment tomorrow at 10:10 am, to try to convince them that I am exempt from penalties. I could buy a new Blue Streak racing tire for what the penalties cost.

In any case I will pay the fees tomorrow whatever they end up being. They will issue me a one day permit to get a smog cert.

Derek contacted me and told me that he was busy today, so maybe it's just as well.

Here is his message, I don't think that he would mind me sharing this with the thread.

Sorry I didn't call you back. My phone was all on the fritz and i didn't get any of my messages, or phone calls for that matter, until late in the day. However, I have to go back to work today and it looks like a busy one since I've been out for about a week.

Don't worry about the first drive thing. I've never been one for huge sentiment. As much work as Dave (slodave) has put into the Carrera, he probably deserves it as much or perhaps more than I do.

Good luck.
d

Thanks Derek, that's very nice of you to let Dave have first ride on Mulholland. But if you are available tomorrow we can accomodate you both.

Tomorrow will be a better day for both Dave M and Jeff H. too.

More to come...

We all love Porsches here. It's what brings us together. I think it's great.

I'm not seeing the connection here? Why would we have to be family? You would simply "buy" the car at the time of auction.

Here we go again. Site wouldnt let me log on for a month. I figured it out though.
Click on the last page saved for the thread in my favorites, then click the Porsche link next to the BMW link at the top of the page and log in. Then click on the 911 tech thread link and bounce to the Off Topic thread. Sounds crazy but its the only way it logs me in. Damn birds.

So lets see here. Kevin is getting married to Chris's sister so Chris can buy back the car thru a lien auction. Makes absolute total sense. I like the idea. Kevin will be wearing his famous Dad Rocks t-shirt at the wedding which will be at Chris's house this Sunday. We are all invited.

Derek gives up his seat in the Carrera for Dave.

Chris goes to the Pacoima DMV......whoa wait a minute. Did you know Pacoima has more unregistered cars parked on lawns per capita than any other suburb in Los Angeles? Then again maybe this was a wise choice as the Pacoima location has experts in long term unregistered vehicles.

Just don't esplain it like this "Aside from the illegal racing tires, loud exhaust, too low, lexan glass, racing motor, highly modified body, silver 14 pnt. roll cage, missing front plate, and illegal emmisions for the year registered, I'm sure it will be just fine".

I never made it to the Smog Check station today Chris. I bought a house instead.
It has been a strange day hasnt it?
