Car and Driver on Mulholland
The October Car and Driver article entitled Chrysler 300 SRT8 takes on Mulholland Drive came out recently.
![]() Here is a link to part of the article. 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 - Road Test - Auto Reviews - Car and Driver I enjoyed driving the Chrysler and giving the writer his information on Mulholland history and specifics. Here is the video on Mulholland that Car and Driver shot the next day. 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 - Video - Auto Reviews - Car and Driver ![]() Two corrections, I stated that they (the city) would not re-pave because they're worried the Racers will come back. I was wrong, yesterday many re-paving machines showed up on Mulholland near Beverly Glen and warning signs showed up displaying a message that major delays would be occuring on Mulholland due to construction. Gotta find out the details. Also, Dick Guldstrand was quoted saying, "I saw a guy kill himself in a '63 Corvette. We called him Mulholland Charley...he went flying right off the road and into the canyon, and that was it" That was an incorrect statement. I have been talking to a member of Charley's own private group from long ago and he has the correct story. Charley did not die on Mulholland Drive! Here is one of the comments on this article: Fantastic article. Being born in 92 on the east coast and always taking vacations east of that, I’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing any famous CA roads. Writers always allude to some amazing strip of pavement, but i guess because of their age (the roads), they feel no need to describe it, assuming everyone already knows what they're talking about. Sometimes it’s like walking in and only catching the punch-line of a joke, you smile and play along, knowing you missed something, while wondering how funny the joke actually was. But I digress... It was nice to see someone truly describe the road and tell the tales the tarmac holds for new kids on the block. Last edited by Banning; 09-24-2011 at 08:55 AM.. |

So I guess this was NOT the same article that involved a photo shoot of your car? I want to know when that one comes out.
This article was entertaining. The part about the hornet's nest was funny.

Bummer! I was way more interested in your car than the silly 300.
You said that you were going to get the shots that were taken of your car. Can you show us some of them or was that verboten.

Here is the big line of heavy paving machines near Bev. Glen on Mulholland.
You can see one of the big trucks that are going back and forth every minute or so. Something big is happening. ![]() Mulholland is closed at Beverly Park. That is where the new paving (done 2 years ago) goes west to Java which is where this photo was taken. ![]() |

At 7:30 this morning the big paving machines started to move to the area just east of me where paving will begin. Probably within 2 hours.
Many trucks back and forth. Weird to see Mul empty and quiet except for these large metal asphalt laying devices. Got a shot of one racing down Mulholland nearby. ![]() (can't wait to try out the new pavement ![]() |

Yes! Check out European Straight. No bumps or manhole covers to joust you around anymore. Awesome!
![]() View looking back down European Straight towards Coldwater. ![]() Here is the end of European Straight entering the blind helacious S turns before "Sideways". This is one of Mulholland's most dangerous areas and it's a true proving ground to who is the fastest. One of my most favorite places ![]() ![]() The blind right is visible in distance. This is just before "Sideways". ![]() Last edited by Banning; 09-30-2011 at 08:15 AM.. |

Entering "Sideways". Uphill, off-camber, and totally blind. Just as fun going East or West.
They don't have turns like this on professional Racetracks, too bad. ![]() The Apex of "Sideways". See how blind it is. ![]() Looking back (east) thru the S turn that enters European Straight. ![]() The rise just before Marlin Brando's old house. ![]() Back to Beverly Park where the new pavement begins. This is also where the pavement was re-done a couple of years ago, but going westward from this point. Now most of Mulholland West is beautiful, smooth, fast and fun. Quite convenient that all the new paving is between my house and Coldwater. John Hall is coming into town Saturday to go with me to Autobooks to sell his new Mulholland book. http://www.amazon.com/Chasing-Kings-Stories-Mulholland-Drive/dp/1466324783/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1317065904&sr=1-8 We will be trying out the new pavement in the Carrera...after all we need to test it to be sure it's safe. ![]() ...and no double yellow means you can't cross over the line...yet. lol ![]() Last edited by Banning; 09-30-2011 at 08:17 AM.. |

Cool, being so smooth and fresh, you aren't going to know how to drive it.

Chris, while looking through these photos, I was thinking the same thing... run it now before the paint truck makes its run. Heh heh

I drove the other Mulholland before the paint truck and after the pavers. It was quite fun.

Today may not be the best day to go driving on Mulholland Drive.
Construction on Mulholland Electrical Poles near Beverly with one-way traffic and traffic cones. You have to wait in line for your turn to go thru. (I was at first concerned that they were laying down double-lines but not yet) Earlier a truck did a roll-over on Coldwater close to the Mulholland Intersection. Police Cars have been going back and forth at or near this area since. A Racecar driving on Mulholland may not be especially popular right now ![]() ![]() |

Po Po's peakin' at ya! Nice picture.
Damn, how'd the guy roll the truck. I hope he hit something with 2 tires, otherwise, he had to have trying pretty hard, I would think.

John re-designed the cover of his book so it visually represents the subject better.
Also a subtitle has been added which helps to identify what the book is about. Good Job John! New Edition will be available in about a week. ![]() |
