1910 Playa Del Rey Motordrome post card. "Roundy Round".

The ill fated Ontario Motorspeedway. Advanced and decades ahead of its time.
I raced dual engine Wasp Carts there a few times. It was an awesome track.

Board Track construction. Pretty scary to think running skinny tires 75-100 mph around on sticks.

AMAZING PICS! All of them!
What's the story on the pics below? What race was this, and where in LA was it staged?

Its the Pamona Road Races. In actuality its not on the streets but one big parking lot aka The Pamona Fairplex. About 30% of the track is still there. The straight away ran down the 1/4 mile of the drag strip and the rest ran through the fair grounds.

Its just another Los Angeles ghost track now....

The yellow dot is where the bridge is still today.

Drag Racing in the Los Angeles River

Back then this was smart. The Cops couldn't give you a vehicle code ticket for speeding down here. Its not a road, they would just kick everyone out for trespassing. My friends Dad Alan Keesling used to be a well known river racer in the 50's. The stories are awesome. They even used the tunnels under Burbank to escape when the black and whites showed up. Now everything is locked up and barred shut.

Amazing the amount of customizers, engine builders, chassis constructors, safety equipment suppliers and men of the craft got a start in Los Angeles.

I worked in that building if that one was the one on Cota Ave. There was a shop on Santa Fe Ave. too, IIRC. Either way, I recognize the building.

I raced karts at Ontario and the Pomona road course under the bridge. Ontario had 19 turns!
