Chris,
For both historical purposes as well as enthusiast/car building purposes, I wonder if it would be possible for this information to converted to pdf files and posted/distributed. You’d have to be comfortable with that; it seems like this stuff was not “top secret” and I can’t imagine it would be any type of copy right violation. I own two old 911s, and have been fascinated by the factory effort with these cars for over 20 years. Please consider this.

Chris,
I’d love a copy of this. If you PM me with your address, I can send a self addressed mailer and a small donation to the Charley Woit park bench fund.

Chris,
Again. Sorry, it’s taken quite a while to read this whole thread. Where did this quote come from? It’s a great quote.

I’d like to my thanks to all involved for sharing their anecdotes of a special time. To me, it seems quite amazing, the story of Mul. Drive. At a time when drag racing and hot rods (in the more conventional sense) were king, there was an underground community of dedicated and rebellious road racers tackling “their track.” You guys helped to preserve a culture of turning in both directions, of driving Datsun 510s, Ford Capris, and other cool cars at a time when most kids wanted to go stoplight to stoplight. When people are building cars and adding crash protection to drive a particular road, it’s apparent there is a dedication, a fire, and a love for the place and the task at hand.

Thanks again,
Alex

Alex, as soon as I get my new computer all straightened out I can post one of the manuals for everyone. Some are quite large, like the one that I copied for Dave B. (Trecup), so I'll post pages from a smaller one in jpgs. I can't make pdf's yet.

Please give me your address and I'll be happy to send you a copy of the Mulholland Run. The link to the short version is on this thread and isn't much different however.

Thank you very much for your comments, interest, and point of view. Please visit Mulholland when in Los Angeles and get a small taste of what it's really like. We believe that you will enjoy it. Cheers!

For the old timers.......

Do you remember when all those "Stilt Houses" went up around Mulholland Drive and up and down Coldwater in the late 60's/early 70's?

I never had much faith in them although most of them are still standing today. I still do not trust them because they lacked diagonal triangulation.

My mom has a high school friend who was a contractor and built many of the "Stilt Homes". I remember as a kid visiting one and him saying "people have no right putting a house on the side of a mountain in mid air". I also remember Irwin Allen's movie Earthquake where they all fell down.

I came across this photo of homes under construction on Mulholland. Reminds me of that quote long ago. Notice to the right some nut is on a swing off the balcony?

Judging by the backdrop this appears to be east of Laurel Cyn.

RIR- Some things never die

Like Mulholland Drive Riverside International Raceway really didnt die. It just went away for a few years before finding a new home.

Riverside Motorsports Park
http://rmpracing.com/index0.htm

If you check out the map of the park the main road coarse is an uncanny clone (somewhat) to the original track with a few added features. (40 possible variations of the course) that can be quickly changed for different types of racing. 1200 acres for multi-motorsport use.

Check out the sight. A business associate up in Santa Maria has been to the location and says its the real McCoy. Upon inspection of the planning prints he said it was like seeing a ghost except better.

Some top dogs are involved with this project. I am sure when it is completed it will be something.

Old cameras are cool! Here's some shots I took yesterday up on Mulholland. Looks like 1978 all over again... sort of.

Regarding Bob's. The guys that are repiping my building leave around 4:00. I'll probably take off about then as well. I told Radu I would give him call around 3:30 and let him know what time I will leave.

Anyone else?

The Jeff Hail photo above of the house on stilts looks like the scene from the movie "The Loved One." The love interest in the movie liked swinging out of the edge of this creaking house that was on the verge of going down the hill. Anyone confirm this?

Gentlemen,
What do you say we have a cool weather pit stop at Truckstop at our regular time? A conservative drive across the summit followed by a mid evening snack afterwards this week? Tuesday night?

Mid evening glucose levels are the perfect excuse to get out of the house enjoy some good company and grab a bite.

Sounds like a great idea. By Tues. eve. we should have the Santa Anas back. It should bring back the warm nights again. Fall has officially started but we could have many more warm nights ahead.

Anyone reading this thread is welcome to join us Tuesday at Truckstop between 8 and 8:30pm to talk about cars, the old days, the new days, current auto events, or whatever. No one has a bad time. It's all about fun with cars, and it's good to get out to enjoy the evening on Mulholland occasionally with like-minded folks.

Great shot Radu. It really shows the "Dark Side" of Los Angeles.

See you Tuesday evening.

This can be talked about in the future.

I can't speak for anyone else but right now any extra time that I have needs to be spent completing the edit to The Mulholland Experience, and completing any missing information along with Victor's help. We could be done by the end of the year and ready to print the 2nd Edition soon thereafter.

My hope is that the 2nd Edition will not disappoint anyone in terms of grammar, syntax, and more importantly exciting new information about the biggest of the Mulholland groups, the CRE and the MRA. Some of this info will come from this thread, but some will come from personal testimony and the stories are going to be incredible. And new information concerning Charley.
