We are doomed! (Another Facebook rant)

I admit it, I am on facebook. Primarily to see pictures of my 2 year old niece who lives in AZ. Yes, I have a few friends -- mostly friends from my post-college years.

While most of my 'friends' will post interesting links, discuss various topics, or at times post humorous pictures, once in a while, I get something lke this:

Quote:
Sheets on beds changed, two loads of laundry done, bathrooms cleaned, vacuumed through the house, errands run, and now I can sit and enjoy a spinach salad with blueberries, walnuts and Asian sesame dressing. Looks like the sun is trying to peek out. I think a walk around the lake after lunch. — feeling great.
No offense to the person who posted this, but this is not news worthy! Why on God's green earth would you post such unnecessary drivel for all your friends (and the NSA) to see?!? Has our desire to keep people informed about ALL of our day to day life come to this? Does anybody really care?!?!

And then there are those people who constantly post pictures of what they eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner (isn't there a thread here on that?!?) -- really? What's next? Posting a picture of the 'aftermath?" (I've seen that too, btw). Granted, I have posted pics of food I'm eating in two scenarios -- 1: when Mrs. Z is away (visiting our niece in AZ), I post pics of what I've cooked so she doesn't need to worry. 2: When I am travelling and am eating sometihing different -- last week, I was in Germany, and posted a pic of my dinner: Filtepfannchen mit Kasespastzle und champignonrahmsauce which I ate at a typical outdoor beer garden in Triberg, Black Forest. I don't travel there much, and neither do most of my friends -- so I'd say that qualifies as a little more 'news worthy.'

Then there was my friend (who is now on facebook ignore list) who, every night, before going to bed, would post, "'Night neverland." Ok - that was maybe cute the first 100 times -- on second thought, that was NEVER cute. Ok - you are going to bed. Whoopieee. I don't really care when you go to bed, what your agenda is for the day, or what you are eating for dinner.

I understand the use of hash-tags on twitter. But -- don't use them on facebook, or here, and DON'T FREAKIN' HASHTAG everything!! Hashtags are supposed to help by tagging/grouping important things together. So tell me, why would someone want to group things that have the word, "#the" or "#and" in them?!?

One more thing -- for the love of all things sacred -- just because you took a picture with your smartphone, that doesn't mean you have to post it -- especially if the picture came out blurry, fuzzy, or under/over exposed. (Side note: why do people insist on saving such pictures as well??)

I really have no interest in reading about someone's miserable pathetic life -- I have my own miserable pathetic life to keep me entertained. I guess the noise to information ration on the internet just keeps getting worse and worse...

I know I have posted stuff like this here before -- maybe I should have just added this to the pet peeve thread....

People should focus on more important things, like what the real answer to 48÷2(9+3) = n is...

Getting off my soapbox.
-Zoltan.

Total waste of time. That's why I visit my Facebook page maybe every six months and haven't updated it in over a year. I have real friends that I see in person.

Remember the old days…when you used to have dinner…then grab the camera, focus it, and take a picture of your food? You’d then take the roll out of the camera, drop it off at the Fotomat place, and you’d pick it up a few days later…. Then, you’d pick out the best photo of your food, go back to the Fotomat, drop off the negative, get copies of the photo made….then, pick them up a few days later. You would then take the photos, put them in envelopes, add stamps, then run down to the post office and mail the pictures of your dinner to all your friends. Remember all that?

Of course not! You didn’t used to take photos of your food – why are you doing it now?

LOL
i dont facebook, never have, never will. i will say this, things in my life are on facebook before it even happens to me. if i want to know if i am going to have a good day, i should just check facebook in the morning, its already there.

the ONLY time i have done anything on facebook is when i was bike riding. i had to have my daughter join the local bike shop facebook because they did not post the rides on their web page, it was on facebook. the fun thing about it was NOBODY new who my daughter was and it was fun to hear everyone asking at the rides who this person was and the talk on FB about her trying to figure it out. finally i had to let them know.

facebook....get a life. oh, i dont twitter either. i wouldnt text but sometimes its the only way i can communicate with my brother or kids. i have been getting messages off and on today from my daughter, been kinda nice. they are usually funny.

Lets get back to that salad - were those chopped walnuts or halves? Fresh blueberries or frozen? How about dressing? Yogurt or oil?

(edit) I see now it was an Asian sesame dressing.

Well, she(?) did more work in her description than most. Maybe not newsworthy, but an accomplishment.

A former co-worker got fired for posting on FB about her kid's b-day pool party while she was playing hookie from work. Her boss had been trying to reach her (both work from home) and she wasn't picking up the Blackberry. Boss is on FB, saw her post and posted back, "Are you working today?" She was canned. True story.

The only thing worse than the meaningless, attention-whore posts are the constantly political ones. I have plenty of friends whose politics are opposite my own. If I cared about their political persuasion, they'd not be my friends. Some folks love to rant about politics on FB and will never change anyone's mind.

You can choose to read these mundane posts or not. My baby has been up all night and I have not slept etc etc. Very sad but could be considered a cry for help.

I do not consider these posts useless but sometimes help is needed but of course it is easy to get a reputation on the net and you have to consider the source. Crying wolf too often may get you written off as being a whiner....

Those I certainly can commiserate with but, " I woke up, I ate a bagel, I cant wait to do laundry all day" lame...I'm sure I've got my own lame ones but, not every single hour of every day.

In other news my favorite food picture post of mine...
My homemade wonton soup.
