Pierce Brosnan deserves respect and recognition for trying to offer an updated version to the original classic.

But no one can adequately equal what McQueen did with his roles. Let alone exceed them.

I like Rene....but she is no Faye......that's for damn sure!

I love this scene....

"You got that right!"

Having seen both several times (Vanilla Sky more), I have to say I don’t really get that take, but I get that it’s personal preference.

But, I will say that although they share the same basic plot, they are to me 2 very different movies. In that way, there’s room for both of them. They complement rather than compete with each other.

McLovin 11-08-2022 05:33 PM

But really my guess is most people dislike both of them equally. :D

IMO "Vanilla Sky" (2001) is vastly underrated.

- The whole "Life Extension - lucid dream" thing went way over the top of most people's heads.

"Jaws" just started on AMC.

From 1975 and directed by Steven Spielberg.

One of the best movies ever made!

"Broadsword calling Danny Boy...."

Yup....from 1969 - "Where Eagles Dare". On TCM right now.

Followed by "The Dirty Dozen" and "The Longest Day".

As always....commercial free!

Some Jaws Trivia:.

• When the 'Universal' logo is first displayed, listen for the sounds of birds squawking. This was Spielberg's nod to the horror film The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock.

• Until Star Wars a few years later, Jaws set world records for ticket sales and overall profits for the studio. However, Robert Shaw's (Quint) contract was really weak, due to the fact he was dealing with terrible tax problems at the time, and so he really didn't make much from the film.

• There were three mechanical sharks used in the film, but all were known by the crew simply as "Bruce." Spielberg said he picked that name; it is the name of his attorney. :)

• The real shark 'caught' by the locals was actually brought in by some Florida fishermen, and the dead carcass of the shark had to be loaded into packed ice, then flown on a private charter flight to the set at Martha's Vineyard.

• Police chief Brody's (Roy Scheider) dogs are actually Spielberg's cocker spaniels, Elmer and Zalman.

• Scheider ad-libbed the most famous line from the film: "We're gonna need a bigger boat."

John Wick 3 is on right now. I did not watch it when it came out because JW 1 was just ok and part 2 not that good. 30 minutes in he has killed at least 30 guys. Not sure I will make it to the end but I dont see anything better on the menu.

They are all good in their own way.

John Wick 4 will be out early next year, BTW.....

Caught a noir film last night starring Lucille Ball.

Not bad.

Couple Joel McRae westerns on this morning.

Virginia Mayo in the first and Veronica Lake in the second.

Some pretty good classics out there!
