A movie about paint drying would be more entertaining than the lobster.

stevej37 03-31-2023 01:03 PM

^^^ never seen it.

Just watched Top Gun: Maverick for the fourth time in the last week or so. For me, it's one of those movies you don't get tired of watching (same for the original). There's no one dull minute in it. Streams on Amazon for free in HD. On Paramount+ it streams in 4K. Terrific flight sequences. It really is a great feel good movie.

I noticed "Bob" was played by a Lewis Pullman. Bill Pullman's son.

The rating said it had universal acclaim! That should have warned me not to bother.

On the Glen meter I give in a .01 on the 1 to 10 scale. It is the dumbest movie I have ever watched. Just a waste of time. Just bad!

Wifey and I joined two other couples on a night out in the city a few years back. We had dinner and a movie. One of the wives raved about The Lobster and said she wanted to see it again so we all did. I was so pissed because we paid full price as it was a Saturday night and I'm cheap. I literally said out loud, "What the hell did we just watch"? That was the last time we were invited out.

Napoleon should release 11/22/2023, starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Ridley Scott. I'm all in on Ridley's movies. Joaquin should be good- I liked him as Commodus in Gladiator- an excellent actor.

If you appreciate Bill Pullman (as I do) check out the movie 'The Last Seduction'
Linda Fiorentino is the star of the movie, but Bill Pullman's part was excellent.

It's one of my fav all-time movies.

And all the most wanted Halloween costumes 2023 will be from this movie. Cant wait. Greta Gerwig never disappoints.

Baz 04-10-2023 06:02 PM

Couple great Gregory Peck westerns......."MacKenna's Gold" and "The Stalking Moon".

Julie Newmar in the first one.....hubba hubba!!!

Here's the best one I've seen in a while...2018's Arctic with the excellent actor Mads Mikkelsen.

https://cdn.flickeringmyth.com/wp-co..._ONE_SHEET.jpg

After his plane crashes, he's got a very tough road just to stay alive. It's full of emotional ups and downs, as he faces off starvation, brutal weather, and of course, polar bears. Just when it looks like salvation is just ahead...but there's still an hour plus run time left, so not so fast. One other reviewer I read said it best; he's such a great actor, he doesn't need much dialog; the suspension of disbelief is quite strong. There is a highly emotional scene near the end that brought me to tear up a bit. It's a darn great film, and a solid recommendation. Netflix, as well as most streaming platforms.

^^^ I watched that one a while back...very good movie.

I became a Mikkelsen fan after Casino Royale. He impresses here with his determination to survive, and it’s all in his facial expressions. It’s based on a true story I guess. A little slow and depressing for me, but I respect it.

Something fun with Mads is Riders of Justice.

I might have to watch this again....one of the best soundtracks ever.

That movie was so well done. An excellent story, well acted, and mind blowing horror for its day in 1973. I think demonic possession is a such a visceral, deep seated fear. I think that same kind of subconscious fear in our DNA was tapped into with Jaws.

A little trivia first:

Q: What 1972 film had Gene Wilder as a doctor and a hunchback named Igor?
A: *Not* Young Frankenstein. It was:

I just re-watched it and it was better than I remembered. Amazing cast, and eye-watering funny. Click on poster image to open Wiki page.

Hunger...on Netflix.
A good movie about fine-dining prep. Just don't watch it when hungry.:)
