+10 on Sputnik. It has a great script and excellent pacing. Recommended!

Speaking of Michael Caine...."Dressed to Kill" right now on TCM - ends in 1 hour. Followed by "Cat People".

1980 Brian DePalma.

Great cast - esp. Nancy Allen!

As always.............commercial free!

There's an interesting one- featuring Nastassja Kinski. I haven't seen her name come up for a long, long time.

"Major Dundee" coming up at 5:30pm on TCM, followed by "Ben Hur" and then "Khartum" at midnight.

As always.......commercial free!

Winner of 11 Oscars......."Ben Hur" (1959) directed by William Wyler. I remember watching it with my parents in the 60's at the local Drive-In as a young lad.

The chariot race scene especially was off the graph!

Also stars Jack "The Bridge of the River Kwai" Hawkins.

M O V I E .... C A R .... C R A S H E S !

Just from memory, name the movie titles.
Honor system please, no searches.

Hints:
  • Listed in chronological order, three are from the same year.
  • The lead actor in one would later in real life cause a fatal car accident.
  • Behind the camera were Friedkin, Scorsese, Landis, Coen, Hughes, and Tarantino.
  • One movie held a car-related world record for many, many years.
  • Another won the Best Picture Oscar.
  • Cameos in one film included John Candy, Carrie Fisher, Paul Rubens, Joe Walsh, and Stephen Spielberg.
  • In front of the camera were Leo, Jeff, Tom, Stan, Matthew, Kurt, Dan, Oliver, Ruth, Gene and Clevon.
  • Despite an 'R' rating, the Vatican said "...the film is filled with positive symbolism and moral references that can be related to Catholicism."

I just watched that too. If the terp really did all that...well... IDK how you repay such heroism.

The first 10 minutes of The Equalizer 3. Watching this won't spoil anything.

Monuments Men. This is a case in which the story itself is more compelling than the movie.

Those guys helped recover over 5 million pieces of art stolen by the Nazis.

Steve Carlton 10-09-2023 09:55 PM

The Covenant with Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim is outstanding. I think it's the best thing I've seen Jake do. Don't spoil it with previews. Military story from when we were in Afghanistan.

Despite the stupidity of the writer who
didn't believe in personal rights or freedom,
this movie was very well made and entertaining.
Plus it's classic Tracy-Hepburn.

'A Day and a Half' on Netflix.
An emotional thriller with great actors and story.
