A couple depressing "end of days" films:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvador_(film) Oliver stone. James Woods. Based on true events https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_man Clive Owen has to save last fertile girl on earth. A couple realistic foreign war films: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_9th_Company Russian troops in Astan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Life_and_Death Battle of Nanjing |
This is not your average Jackie Chan movie. (Who's was 62 when he made this.)
And certainly not your average action movie. Also an excellent performance from Pierce Brosnan! Well worth the time. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/om9YCk7ufHs" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I just finished watching Das Boot... Brilliant move. (I haven't seen it in more than 30 years!)
Some time ago I found the Restored Blu-Ray directors cut version and it's been sitting in my cabinet since then. Don't go by the trailer. The restored version is very good with full 5.1 surround sound. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qjr_EK3eGxE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Watched Super 8 on Prime last night. Good flick.

If Contagion isn't dark enough for you...

Can't recall if this was posted.
Near-perfect zombie film that works for non-zombie film fans. Seems timely. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1ovgxN2VWNc" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
"The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" (2013) right now on IFC. 1 hour left. I just got home from errands and turned it on. After watching 10 minutes of it - it looks good. Look forward to seeing it from start to finish.

Best Zombie movie I've seen. Very realistic...esp the train crash scene. |
If you like Guy Ritchie movies you'll enjoy this.
I'd describe it as a good old fashioned capper movie using the usual stereotypes but in a different way. Lots of original ideas and the ending surprised me. And the music was fantastic. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Qkr7xwyIKbg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
This one came on TCM last night. No censoring - entire uncut movie with no deleted scenes. It was so good. If you've never seen it - you should. I've watched it several times now but seeing the complete version was amazing.

I happened to catch The Dilema on TV tonight, I vaguely remember it, but what the heck, it was way better than I remember! And a great idea “muscle car sound for electrics” (why isn’t anyone doing this), anyway, well worth the watch |
Took some time off today and watched a few good ones. Two William Holden classics: "The Revengers" and "The Wild Bunch" (Sam Peckinpaw director) and then this evening "Ray" which was fantastic with an incredible performance by the very talented Jamie Foxx.
I hadn't seen "Ray" before so really enjoyed seeing it. |
The good ole days.

I watched this last night... One word: Disappointing.
Actually awful but they did try hard. There were some scenes that made no sense whatsoever. Is it just me or are films like this getting worse? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kGM4uYZzfu0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I think all movies are getting worse. There are a few good ones out there, but they are few and far between. Too much CGI, too much bull**** violence for no reason, storylines you can’t believe, and crap music. Did I mention bad acting?

You guys should be watching the vintage stuff, like me.
On my cable a channel called "Movies" - finishing up right now is "Point Blank" and at 10 tonight Sinatra in "The First Deadly Sin". <iframe width="725" height="544" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qEjd9ysyiX4" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
