Speaking of the vintage stuff. We have a station here called ME-TV (Memorable Entertainment) and they air "Gunsmoke" every day at 1PM. The last week or so they've been showing the original 1/2 hour black and white episodes from Season 1. Two each day from 1-2pm. Those early episodes are really great - James Arness was so good in that role it's ridiculous!

A different Will Ferrell flick, Casa De Mi Padre. Fans of Narcos Mexico will recognize one key character.

The Ghost Writer. Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, several others you’d recognize. Some decent scenery.

And now for something completely different... Gone Girl!

Believe me when I tell you this movie is brilliant. The only reason I watched it is because I happen to see a short no spoilers review on YouTube. It looked interesting so I thought why not?

It starts off slow but then it builds up and doesn't let off. As I wrote brilliant but my mother is living with me right now and there's no way I would let her see this movie. It just messes with your mind and there are some harrowing scenes bordering on horror. It's not a prefect movie but pretty damn close. I'd suggest seeing it with your significant other because it's bound to provoke thought long after it's over. Great cast and beautifully executed.

(My mother is 82 and she's frightened about the whole Corona thing. So she packed her bags and turned up on my door step after I lost my job 17 days ago.)

That reminds me of a local murder case Cal Harris

Almost the same as 'Gone Baby Gone' starring Casey Affleck, Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman

I blame Michael Bay for this. Too much explosions and not enough story. Though I do like the Die Hard movies.

There aren't enough Art of Racing in the Rain or Hidden Figures movies any longer. Everything is a blast fest with no acting required on most movies now days. All brawn and no brain type stuff.

I did watch F vs F finally. The racing scenes were hokey but otherwise a decent movie. I have Dark Star in the queue to watch.

Wife has been watching Poirot box set.

Here's a different look at WW2. "The Man With The Iron Heart" (2017) It details "Operation Anthropoid" and the subsequent aftermath.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Anthropoid

You get a look at the German high command and how things unfolded in Czechoslovakia.
Dark history but I found it compelling because of the bravery of those involved and the eventual outcome.
I especially liked that it was true to history. It may not have been 100% accurate but still very decent IMO.

There's lots online about the assassination and it's aftermath.

"The Man From Laramie" on GRIT TV right now. 1955 with James Stewart.

sc_rufctr 04-17-2020 06:48 PM

Thanks Baz, That's a great old movie. Anything with James Stewart is good.

"The Greatest Show on Earth" 1952 was a real stand out for me!

Ah yes....James Stewart was a clown. Chuck Heston was in it as well, I believe.

Back when men were men! :D

"Lawrence of Arabia" on TCM right now. About half over. Magnificent!

tcar 04-19-2020 08:29 AM

"Lawrence" one of the best ever made.... IMO.. I've watched it many times. Each time a treat.

stevej37 04-19-2020 10:08 AM

I might have posted this one earlier....but it's a great movie. Cusack, Billy Bob, Angelina Jolie

For something different & if you like foreign films.
My GF suggested this and I immediately had doubts but the sex is way better when I agree with her so...
Boy was I surprised. Truly brilliant. It's been a long time since I've seen such a well thought out and interesting movie.

Highly recommended especially as a date movie.

sc_rufctr 05-02-2020 07:42 AM

How about a comedy? :D

Honestly this movie is so bad it's terrible.... Over the top special effects and all that but the cast?
How did any of them keep a straight face?

Awful, just awful. You have been warned.
