Well, you missed out on the sale but the bright side is you have $0 and a broken Boxster. Cheers!

In the business world I believe that is referred to as "win/win". Or something like that.

Guy to his lovely wife:

“Yes, honey, the numbers are looking good so far this year with the Boxster. Of course, that “Projected Estimable Receivables” balance provides us with a fairly healthy squish factor in case any of the potential buyers start asking questions or the engine becomes an IED. Let’s square the circle, Pookie: it's our cash cow when someone steps to the plate with some synergy. We are not eating our own dog food here, Babe, trust me."

"Look up win/win, Honeybunch: It's on our Mt. Rushmore."

Chills.

Next time he should use a more proactive paradigm to better leverage those synergies.

Just for clarification Guy, I used the term "dog pile" when I requested the "piling on" to stop in this thread. I hope you didn't misinterpret my use and think that "dog pile" was in any way derogatory towards you. Since I "think" you're British..."dog pile" was a game (sort of) we played as teenagers when we used to beat the crap out of each other playing football (not soccer ) and everyone jumps on the guy that's down on the ground: "DOG PILE"!!!! Also known as "Smear the q***r" ...not that there's anything wrong with that . IMO, you did a standup thing by contacting the other fellow back, and I wish you the best of luck with the Boxster!

The term dog pile can mean many things. I don't get upset about this at all. I can see how it is easy for some OT members to kick somebody when they are down. It seems that motorcycle rider objecting to cell phone use in a car gets his share today. After a while the dog pilers in my mind become the offenders.
Cheers, Guy.

Good on ya for at least reaching out and honoring your original offer. You're off the hook and with a clean conscience. All the best!

You did the right thing by letting the guy know you screwed up. It would have been a class move to offer to buy him lunch for his time, gas, and trouble from the first trip. If you lived in the U.S. you could have had Obummer have both of you over for a beer summit.

That said, I'm not surprised he turned you down. If I were him, my concern would have been "This guy has shown himself to be greedy. I bet he found something else wrong and is trying to get his money before the thing grenades".

Quickly saw that thread but didn't comment...Heck, there's only a few dozen folks piling on Jeff....they don't stand a chance .

I've got a HD '87 Sportster with straight pipes (it's LOUD)...Sammy likes it
When I first discovered PPOT...Nostatic was "it".
Ask Shaun about "social experiments"....

The list goes on and on, and the archives don't go back far enough for many of the classics....nature of the beast that we call PPOT.

Wow, kinda surprised you posted this. A buyer offers you full pop advertised price and you turned him down due to possible new information, realized how shady it was, and gave the buyer another shot. Good to make the effort to repair this, but the buyer is feeling quite burned and probably wouldn't take the car for free now. It was a bird in the hand and it got away.

Get the car fixed and enjoy the rest of the summer months. Put it up for sale again with clean conscience when you are ready and sell it honorably. If you want bids, put it on ebay and take your chances.

I probably would have behaved the same as the prospective buyer. In a sense, you're 'buying the seller' as well as buying the car.

Perhaps the takeaway for this buyer would be to not tell a seller there's nothing wrong with his as-is listing...

Bottom line is that it's not some hard to come by car. They sold a schit load of them and they are a dime a dozen. Might want to remember this the next time you're selling one.

The saga continues. Another person was interested and offered the full asking price of $8500. I said do you want to do a PPI. He said no. Then the least I can do I said was to check the old oil filter and cut it open.(in the meantime his kids are milling around - when are we going home Daddy?) Well the old filter is full of green crap with the occasional fleck of metal in it. However there is nothing that sticks to the magnet.

So obviously he said he would check later and do his research and so in the meantime I will do mine. I will post pics later in the Boxster section of this forum.....
Guy.
PS You experts can then chime in and express your professional opinion about how extensive the repair is.......I thank you again!

Guy,

Do you REALLY want to sell this car? You are certainly not acting like you do.

If you are honest in your ad and answer the buyers questions honestly and don't intentionally hide things then what the hell are you doing cutting open oil filters for him?

If he does not want a PPI you make it very clear that the car is as is.

Take his money and hand him the keys.

You are way overthinking this.
