My 5 just had the battery recall. Battery life was getting short. All good now.

My only bone to pick with iTunes is that at upgrade time, I get the message that 'some purchased items won't be transferred.' I'm supposed to guess? Haven't upgraded the iPhone software for a while because of that.

Sent a note to Cook & got no response. I miss Steve.

No kidding! I've owned three iPhones and one iPad and have never had a screen issue at all. I think you'd have to be teeing off of them in order to shatter one.

Wife has had two kid induced drops that totally shattered her screen. Mine went swimming, my fault, but the new one will barely charge and the external speaker is shot.

You need cases.

She had a case in both instances. Both times it was dropped on something, don't recall what. I really don't blame the shattered screen on the phone, but my failing speaker and lightning connector on a one year old phone is not cool.

I've been on both sides. Haven't been thrilled with either.

My Android complaints were all the proprietary and other BS you couldn't delete on my Galaxy (I know... root it, but don't have the time). With the next one I went with a Nexus 5. It performs ok, but it runs through a fully charged battery every 18 hours with light-moderate use. Also the screen crapped out - on the bottom 90% of the screen every other row of pixels is dead. Damage was not from being dropped. I set it on the couch, came back 5 minutes later and WTF happened to the screen.

30 minutes on I-10

Still worked afterwards! Well, not the screen...

I guess it all depends on what you do with the phone. I prefer my Galaxy Tablet because I can use it as a mini laptop including network drive access, VPN and manipulation of Word, Excel and Power Point documents. Having a phone that was different, drove me crazy.

The only thing I miss from the iPhone, is the camera. I'm sure it is the DSP and the software, but it took very good pictures.

That's my concern about going to the other side. Everybody that loves Android seems to be an computer geek that roots it and customizes the hell out of things. I'm an engineer, so I use the term geek in the most positive of ways. I don't care about the ability to spend hours reprogramming my phone to exactly suit me, I don't care about open source, I don't care about making my own apps, etc. I just want it to work in the easiest and most common sense manner possible, if I want to tinker I'll head to the garage.

Buy iPhones, buy everything AAPL. We love Apple!
If you buy your music through iTunes you are not paying attention. 99 cents a track? Are you kidding me. Get it elsewhere for cheap and import your stuff and let iTunes manage it. That works great for me. I am a previous PC and Android guy who switched to iPhone and Mac and not going back. Buy Apple stuff. Buy. Buy. Buy.

Being a shareholder is like getting your Apple stuff for free. How high will it go? Steve Jobs is in control from the next level. Keep that to yourself.

I hear that - between houses and cars I don't have time to screw around with the phone and undo the junk the OEM or carrier added to customize it. That's why I picked the Nexus.

For what it's worth my annoyances with the current version of plain vanilla Android are that the stock music player is not very good in terms of organizing and making what you have loaded available. I also can't seem to find a decent flashlight app that won't turn itself off after a random amount of time, then get stuck with off = on. Google Now doesn't exactly do anything for me either but it's not really intrusive. And the screen failing but that's a LG hardware thing.

On the other hand I've never had an iphone or ipod touch quit on me, even after 6 years of daily use.

This.

I love modding / tinkering but I've got several other projects that consume my time with that already. I used to compile my own Linux kernels and stuff for fun but I just can't bother anymore and pretty much anything I can tweak someone else has done already - easier to just download it. Same with building PCs. Did it for years. Now easier to just grab my MacBook or iPad and blast away on whatever I need it for. It's already done and it's worth paying a few extra bucks to not deal with the hassle of having to tweak every little thing.

I respectfully disagree, my family has both androids and apple phones, they both have their problems and quirks... I just don't understand after I see the problems my family has had with their iPhones how so many very intelligent people can put on their iBlinders and tout them as being all that (and a bag of chips). iphone are far from flawless... IMHO

I really don't understand what you're talking about. I have a Galaxy S5 and a Galaxy Tab 8.4 Pro and I haven't had to "mod" them. I have organized the app screens, but then you have to do that on the Apple as well. You CAN change the interface, but I find what they have supplied to be fine.
