All kidding aside, people need to rethink messing around with trees. My buddy Fred was killed cutting a tree in his yard after hurricane Sandy. another friend of mine was paralyzed after a branch that he was cutting fell on him, back in the 90's.

I cant tell you the number of calls we get every year for tree cutting accidents. people are clueless in what it takes to do it properly.

Yeah - that's a good solution...

I wonder what he's going to tie the cable to -- did anyone else get the blurb widebody said about a rope already tied around his chimney?

There are so many ending scenarios to this situation -- and most of them are NOT pleasant. We can sell this story to Hollywood, where they work in a "Groundhog Day" time loop and widebody's neighbor gets to work through all of the scenarios until he finds the right one. Working title: "Groundhog Day 2 - Puxatony Phill's Revenge." Chris Elliot can play widebody's idiot neighbor, with Bill Murray and Andie McDowell starring as Mr. and Mrs. Widebody.

Hey - if the Kardashians and Honey Boo Boo are what the average American watches, this can work!!

It is really hard to see which way the tree wants to go by the pics.
If the first notch is holding you can always cut another.

I thought that too - especially if the first notch is not deep enough. But there is always the risk of the first notch allowing the tree to 'fold over' and fall the wrong way.

I still don't understand why he didn't cut the notch about 6 inches from the base...

A family in my wife's hometown is famous for their family tree not having many branches. As such, they aren't the brightest bunch. Once when working on the roof, the husband tied his safety rope to the truck.......which his wife then tried to drive away in. When cutting down a tree, he cut down the limb........that his ladder was leaning against. Maybe they have relatives near widebody?

Maybe Jack O would like to write the screenplay for this story?
