Are red calipers stupid looking?

I had the same concerns. Mine were stock painted red when I got the car. I think it looks bad a$$, and I am the last person to bling things. I have even considered painting yellow, next, since red kinda imitates Big Reds, which I am NOT pretending to have.

I WANT to see (pic) them in red (from those that have done it) and I want to see them in NEW original (pic) condition.

Then I will know what way to go.

I often wonder if paint (any color) prevents heat from leaving the caliper... wouldn't unpainted calipers run cooler?

I like the red calipers. On Porsches and other serious sports cars. What I hate is the silly red, floating, non-high performance calipers you see on a car like a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Comp G Special Limited Edition 25th Anniversary GTO Thingamajigger..............

My vote is to leave 'em black because I like the understated look.

Then again, on a street car, I think red calipers can look cool. I don't think it's stepping too far into 'bling'-land to paint your calipers.

I painted them red with Chevy Engine Paint (will withstand the heat and it looked close to Guards Red) in my previous car. I thought they looked great.

Matter of opinion. Won't make the car faster, and in 10-15 year's time, when your car wil be really rare, you'll kick yourself for not keeping it original.
I am in the process of undoing that exact mod on a factory race car, and it's a huge headache to bring them back to correct finish.

But the brakes you are considering for paint are not original to the car. So what's the difference? Or do you have a factory Widebody look?

Rick,

Bigrubberjeep's car is a factory turbo-look, so the 930 calipers are original to the car.

I vote to keep them original as well (black w/ white lettering).
